Street Light Committee <br />March 15, 2016 <br />Minutes <br />Members Present: Scott Carline, Chris Avis, Catherine Laurent <br />A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 5:00 pm. <br />The minutes of the May 7, 2015 meeting were approved. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Request for Installation of Street Light — Ninigret Ave Neighborhood„ <br />Chief Carline met with 14 residents of the neighborhood and also had received an email. <br />The residents are requesting additional street lights to help improve/address some of <br />the recurring safety concerns in the neighborhood. A single light on Canonchet Ave had <br />been approved last year because of the same safety concerns. The Committee voted <br />unanimously to recommend installation of two additional street lights, the final location <br />to be determined by the Police Chief. <br />Request for Installation of Street Light — Pimlico Pond Road <br />Ms .Laurent received a request from the property owner at 116 Pimlico Pond Road for <br />additional street lights on the road; there are currently 4 on the road. Chief Carline will <br />follow up with the resident on the specific location she is requesting a light. <br />Discussion of Lighting on Primary Roads <br />The Committee discussed whether minimum fighting should be provided on primary <br />roads. Ms. Laurent will ask the Town's contractor for a cost estimate for service and <br />installation. The Committee will add a line item in future budgets specifically for <br />installation of new lights. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Invoicing for Private. Street Lights <br />The.Committee had discussed upon completion of the LI=D Street Light Conversion <br />project that private roads be billed annually for lights on their roads. A letter was sent <br />to the property owners/neighborhood associations; most reluctantly had been in <br />agreement to pay the cost in order to retain the lights on their respective roads. The <br />project is complete and the cost including maintenance and electricity is approximately <br />$30 per light per year. The annual savings to the Town would be approximately <br />$S,OOO.The Committee voted to forward the recommendation to the Board of <br />Selectmen. <br />The meeting adjourned at 5:45 pm. <br />Respectively submitted, <br />$ <br />Catherine Laurent <br />
