Street Light Committee
March 15, 2016
Minutes
Members Present: Scott Carline, Chris Avis, Catherine Laurent
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 5:00 pm.
The minutes of the May 7, 2015 meeting were approved.
NEW BUSINESS
Request for Installation of Street Light — Ninigret Ave Neighborhood„
Chief Carline met with 14 residents of the neighborhood and also had received an email.
The residents are requesting additional street lights to help improve/address some of
the recurring safety concerns in the neighborhood. A single light on Canonchet Ave had
been approved last year because of the same safety concerns. The Committee voted
unanimously to recommend installation of two additional street lights, the final location
to be determined by the Police Chief.
Request for Installation of Street Light — Pimlico Pond Road
Ms .Laurent received a request from the property owner at 116 Pimlico Pond Road for
additional street lights on the road; there are currently 4 on the road. Chief Carline will
follow up with the resident on the specific location she is requesting a light.
Discussion of Lighting on Primary Roads
The Committee discussed whether minimum fighting should be provided on primary
roads. Ms. Laurent will ask the Town's contractor for a cost estimate for service and
installation. The Committee will add a line item in future budgets specifically for
installation of new lights.
OLD BUSINESS
Invoicing for Private. Street Lights
The.Committee had discussed upon completion of the LI=D Street Light Conversion
project that private roads be billed annually for lights on their roads. A letter was sent
to the property owners/neighborhood associations; most reluctantly had been in
agreement to pay the cost in order to retain the lights on their respective roads. The
project is complete and the cost including maintenance and electricity is approximately
$30 per light per year. The annual savings to the Town would be approximately
$S,OOO.The Committee voted to forward the recommendation to the Board of
Selectmen.
The meeting adjourned at 5:45 pm.
Respectively submitted,
$
Catherine Laurent
