Recycling Committee <br />January 21, 2015 Minutes <br />Members Present: June Levy, Sheldon Gilbert, Marion Baker, Chuck Gasior <br />Others: Mike Richardson, Selectman <br />Catherine Laurent, DPW <br />A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.. <br />DEP Grant Discussion <br />The Town received a grant from DEP to implement a food waste collection. Catherine is <br />investigating vendors for the collection. The Committee discussed using the funds to purchase <br />kitchen scrap buckets. A limited number of buckets could be distributed at no cost to residents <br />to promote participation. A spring start is proposed. <br />The Town also received another grant from DEP which can be used for education or equipment. <br />The Committee suggested collecting film plastic. Residents can currently recycle plastic bags at <br />grocery stores. Catherine noted that other film plastic can also be recycled with the grocery <br />bags. <br />Waste Management Committee Update <br />The Waste Management Committee had their first meeting January 6th. There was a lot of <br />background discussion on solid waste and the transfer station in general to help educate the <br />various committee members. The next meeting will discuss setting goals, <br />The Recycling Committee discussed whether a PAYT pilot might be beneficial for the Waste <br />Management Committee to consider. A pilot would demonstrate the potential savings for <br />individual households. The Committee noted that the participants would have to be selected to <br />represent the Town's demographic.
