Recycling Committee
September 9, 2015 Minutes
Members Present: June Levy, Sheldon Gilbert, Marion Baker
Others: Catherine Laurent, DPW
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 2:15 p.m..
Minutes
The minutes of the January 2111 meeting were approved.
Waste Management Committee Update
The Waste Management Committee will be meeting next on September 211t. The results of the
Transfer Station survey will be reviewed. The Committee currently does not have a deadline for
making a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen.
Food Waste Collection Update
The August collection was slightly over 1 ton. Participation is low.
Rigid Plastic Collection
Catherine advised the Committee that collection of rigid plastic resumed. Because of the
contamination issues, residents will be asked to place items on tables for sorting rather than
throwing them directly in the roil -off.
With these two collections, residents have been provided the opportunity to divert almost
100% of their trash from the waste stream.
Other
Members discussed the future of the Committee and whether they should resign, whether the
Recycling Committee should be merged with the Waste Management Committee or whether
the Recycling Committee should be disbanded. The Committee will ask for a meeting with the
new Town Manager to discuss what its role is. Catherine will try to schedule a meeting for the
week of September 211t
The meeting adjourned at 3:10 p.m..
Respectively submitted,
Catherine Laur t
