TAX INCENTIVES
Tax incentives that Falmouth is looking into (not sure these can be done):
(1) Reduce taxes for "X" number of years for those existing businesses who build
second -story affordable housing apartments on top of their current business sites;
(2) Work with Habitat — Town to claim lands for nonpayment of taxes and give to
Habitat to build affordable housing homes for sale.
Leila Botsford mentioned that the Mashpee Housing Authority is forming a nonprofit entity and
that the nonprofit entity will mirror the Housing Authority Board and will invite members of this
Affordable Housing Committee to serve as well. The timetable: Within 6 months the nonprofit
entity should be established.
Peter Kirwin strongly recommended the Committee contact Gwen Pelletier, Executive Director
of Lower Cape Community Development Corporation. According to Peter, Gwen and her
husband have brought in more money to the Lower Cape towns and have done more with less
money than any other group on Cape.
Leila and the Committee thanked Peter Kirwin for coming and for his input. He then exited the
meeting.
Following detailed discussions among the Committee members, Richard Terry (Planning Board)
volunteered to approach the Cape Cod Commission to ascertain what type of funding is available
and to report back to the Committee at next month's meeting (October 7, 2001).
Tom Fudala mentioned to the Committee that this morning he met with a developer's attorney
(Paul Glynn). The developer wants to do a 40B project on Meetinghouse Road. Tom is going to
check with Town Counsel on this request.
NEXT MEETING
Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at 7:15 p.m. in Town Hall Meeting Room 1.
ADJOURNMENT
Zella Elizenberry motioned the meeting be adjourned at 8:25 p.m.; this was seconded by Louise
Patrick; and unanimously approved.
Re pectfully submitted,
J Giliberti
cretary
