Affordable Housing Committee Minutes of Meeting Held Tuesday, October 2, 2001 Mashpee Town Hall — Meeting Room 1 Present: J. Cahalane, L. Patrick, M. LeClair, J. Regan, A. Weinstein, Z. Elizenberry, L. Williams, R. Terry, and Tom Fudala (Planning). Absent: L. Botsford, and G. Marshall. Public Audience: Bea Perkins, League of Women Voters. A quorum being present, John Cahalan, Vice Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Louise Patrick motioned to accept the minutes of the September 4, 2001 meeting; this was seconded by LaVeme Williams; and unanimously approved. UPDATES Dick Terry opened the discussion stating he used to be employed by affordable housing and, thus, has some experience in this area. He then informed the Committee of the details of his discussion with Bob Murray, which was very fruitful. Dick Terry distributed a packet of materials to the group. According to Dick Terry some of the thoughts expressed by Bob Murray to him included the following: • Lots of cities and towns do not get involved with affordable housing. • Bob suggested he would float a bond. Mary LeClair stated that Falmouth is already doing this and Mary said the County might be looking into doing it. • Try to buy present housing if possible. Falmouth doing this and making preference for municipal employees. Jamie Regan suggested perhaps buying condos and renting them. He noted that Hyannis does this and it has been successful. • Falmouth has housing trust that is in charge. Having the corporate entity means no liability for the town. Dick Terry commented that he believes the Board of Trustees can be bonded. ACTION ITEMS Bob Murray to be invited to next Committee Meeting, which is scheduled for November 6. Louise Patrick will contact him. Prepare Article submitting the Resolution for May -2002 Town Meeting. February is deadline for submitting for May Town Meeting. Present appropriation request at May 2003 Town Meeting.
