Smith, Z. h nb rry Meeting was called to order at 7:43 lam New Business: Presentation by May Institute: Joe Realbuto, Joe O'Brian and Marcia Allen . The May Institute was started in 1955 in Chatham by Dr. and Mrs. May to provide treatment and living shills for autistic individuals. At this point the May Institute provides services for developmentally disabled individuals including clay services, vocational services and residential services. Individuals served at the llahpee site are 22 and over. The majority of clients served are in their late 's and early 's. Most have mental retardation and/or brain injuries. Many have other rnaladaptive behaviors. The Town of Mashpee and the May Institute are talking about the Torn donating a piece f land to the Institute for two purposes: a therapeutic greenhouse program and a residential group home with four separate units. The residents would attend day services at the lite. 130 site. The greenhOLise will function as a therapeutic activity for May Institute clients and will also provide interaction with community members through plantings at municipal buildings and donations of vegetables to local food pantries. Thea may be other opportunities for community members to interact with May Institute clients through the green house program. This project is being proposed by way of an article on the October Town Meeting warrant. A suggestion was made that photos be available at ToxNm Meeting to demonstrate hover the project will look. The Committee expressed unanimous support for the project. . A motion was made to accept the RFP for a housing consultant for Needs Assessment as written by Erie Smith. Erie will next bring the RFP to Torn Adrnim'strator Joyce Mason and Selectmen for approval.
