SUB -COMMITTEE UPDATES
• Grants — Ruth Elias, Janice Walford
Janice Walford stated that a suggestion from Barnstable County Resource Development Officer
Bobbi Moritz was to inquire about the Vista program that is part of Americorp. However, upon
investigation, it was learned that the Vista program is concentrating on regional approaches to
addressing needs, so Mashpee does not qualify unless it joined with other towns. Other
suggestions included approaching the Cape Cod Community College and Bridgewater State
University to ask for any students studying human services or related fields who might be interested
and available to intern at the Human Services Department. Gail Wilson expressed great interest in
pursuing this avenue inn the future. It was decided first to explore the possibility of getting
volunteers to staff the office on a set schedule through the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer
Program).
Gail Wilson reported that she has three volunteers at the present time, with each volunteer having a
specific day and time that they are available to work at the Human Services office. The idea of using
the Human Services Department as a food donation drop-off location was discussed. It was thought
that this might be a duplication of the existing St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry service. Also
mentioned was the requirement that someone would need to be available at the Human Services
Department during certain hours to receive the food donations. No final decision was reached on
the subject of receipt of food donations at the Human Services Department.
• Marketing Sub -Committee: Veronica Warden and Elinor Glener
Samples of possible brochures for distribution as rack cards were distributed for the consideration of
the committee members. Janice Walford suggested that the Town Seal be included on the
brochure, an idea that was approved by the committee members. David DelPonte suggested having
a map to be included on the back of the rack card with directions to the Human Services
Department. This suggestion was met with approval by the committee members. The cost of the
brochures will be $125 for 1000, with a possible increase in cost for printing on both sides of the
card. All suggestions for revised rack cards were noted by the Marketing Sub -Committee, who will
report back to the committee at the next meeting with new samples to consider.
COORDINATOR'S REPORT - Highlights
• Town Hall Meeting on Drug Overdose Issue.
