Town of Mashpee <br />16 Great Neck Road North <br />Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br />HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE — PUBLIC SESSION <br />Thursday, May 28, 2015 — Mashpee Town Hall <br />2:00 PM — Ockway Meeting Room 2 <br />Minutes of the Meeting of May 28, 2015 <br />Committee Members Present: <br />Ruth Elias,Chairman <br />Janice Walford, Vice Chairman <br />Elinor Glener, Clerk <br />Mary Bradbury <br />John Cahalane <br />Mary Scanlan <br />Veronica Warden <br />Lynne Waterman <br />Member Absent: Also Present: <br />Kathy Mohler -Faris Tara Carline, Mashpee PD, <br />Victim Witness Advocate <br />Gail Wilson, Human Services Director <br />David DelPonte, FinCom Liaison Rep. <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Chairman Ruth Elias called the meeting to order at 2:00 PM. <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />David DelPonte, Finance Committee Liaison to the Human Services Committee, introduced himself <br />to the committee, and stated that he wanted to clarify his vote against the Human Services budget. <br />His purpose in voting against the budget was to express his opinion that the budget amount was too <br />small, and needed to be more. When Mr. DelPonte looked at where the Town was spending large <br />amounts of money elsewhere, he would rather see more of that money being allocated to Human <br />Services. By voting against approval of the Human Services budget, Mr. DelPonte was hoping to <br />elevate an awareness of the great need for Human Services within the Mashpee community, Mr. <br />DelPonte added that he has a real interest in promoting the efforts of the Human Services <br />Committee to the Finance Committee and will work toward an increased awareness of the <br />importance of their work. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />• Review of Minutes of April 16, 2015 <br />John Cahalane made a motion that the minutes of the 4116115 Human Services meeting be <br />accepted as written. Elinor Glener seconded the motion. The motion was approved by a vote of (8- <br />0-1) with Ruth Elias abstaining. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />• Guest Speaker: Tara Carline, Mashpee Police Dept,, VictimlWitness Advocate <br />The committee members were all introduced to Ms. Carline. Tara Carline stated that she has worked <br />at the Mashpee Police Department as the Victim/Advocate for the past 7 years. Prior to that, she <br />was a Police Department officer in New Hampshire. Ms.Carline stated that her position on the <br />Police Department is solely funded by a federal grant for the Violence Against Women Act. The <br />grant was renewed last October 2014 for 3 years and is in the amount of $32,000 per year. It is <br />
