John Cahalane made a motion to nominate Elinor Glener as Clerk of the Human Services <br />Committee. Veronica Warden seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved. <br />• Rack Cards — Veronica Warden <br />Veronica Warden distributed copies of the new rack card to the committee members, and stated that <br />the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Print Shop had printed 1000 copies of the brochure at a cost <br />of $116.00. Ms. Warden had prepared a list of 14 potential rack card display locations for <br />consideration, with four additional locations added to the list by the committee members. Gail <br />Wilson, Lynne Waterman and Mary Bradford volunteered to work on distribution of the brochures. <br />The committee members thanked Veronica Warden and Elinor Glener for their collaborated efforts <br />on producing the rack cards, and congratulated them on an excellent job. <br />• Town Meeting Food Drive Report, <br />Gail Wilson reported that although she had called the Mashpee Enterprise to request inclusion of an <br />announcement a week ahead of the scheduled Food Drive at the Town Meeting on May 4t", it was <br />not included in the paper. Despite that, Gail Wilson stated that the drive was a big success. <br />Veronica Warden was thanked for her assistance with distribution of the donations. <br />• Coordinator's Report — Highlights <br />- Attended the May 21, 2015 Mashpee Cares meeting. Follow-up on the Purple Flag project is to <br />occur on Father's Day weekend. 333 purple flags are to be planted at the Mashpee rotary to raise <br />awareness of the drug problem and overdose crisis on the Friday before Father's Day. Signage will <br />be included to explain the purpose of the purple flag demonstration. <br />- Attended Barnstable County Regional Substance Abuse Council. May 7, 2015. <br />Discussion focused on themes from the focus groups. Randy Hunt gave legislative updates, stating <br />that he is pushing the House to get more prescribers on board where they have to sign up different <br />registered pharmacies to ensure that people don't doctor shop. To date there is a very low number <br />of pharmacies registered. <br />- Meeting Face to l=ace with Contractors <br />Gail Wilson met with the VNA to discuss the contract and unmet needs in Mashpee, and is hoping to <br />meet with the additional agencies in the coming year. <br />- Mature Workers Candidate <br />Gail Wilson reported that a Mature Workers candidate has been identified as a good fit for the <br />Human Services Department. The candidate, Dawn Cameron, was interviewed by Gail Wilson, <br />whose impression was that she seemed to be a definite people -person, with a Masters degree in <br />education, a retired teacher for 17 years, very organized, and appeared to be very flexible. Ms. <br />Wilson's feeling is that Ms. Cameron would be a good fit for the Human Services office. <br />This will be a 20 -hour per week person, and will start next Monday. Gail Wilson stated that she is <br />going to be very clear with Ms. Cameron as to what she is looking for in a supportive role, and feels <br />that it is going to be a good experience and a good fit. Ms. Cameron will work 4 days a week, 9:30 <br />AM to 2:30 PM. Lynne Waterman has found a replacement spot for the three current Tax Work -Off <br />volunteers who have been assisting in the Human Services office. Lynne Waterman reminded the <br />committee that the goal of the Mature Workers program is eventually to find full time positions for <br />their workers. Dawn Cameron will be invited to attend the next Human Services Committee <br />meeting. <br />
