Town of Mashpee <br />.16 Great Neck Road North <br />Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br />HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE — PUBLIC SESSION <br />Thursday, June 18, 2015 — 2:00 PM <br />Mashpee Town Hall — Ockway Meeting Room 2 <br />Committee Members Present: <br />Janice Walford, Chairman <br />Ruth Elias, Vice Chairman <br />Elinor Glener, Clerk <br />John Cahalane <br />Kathy Mohler-Faria <br />Lynne Waterman <br />Members Absent: Also Present: <br />Mary Bradbury Gail Wilson, Human Services Director <br />Mary Scanlan David DelPonte, FinCom Liaison <br />Veronica Warden <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Chairman Janice Walford called the meeting to order at 2:00 PM. <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />David DelPonte stated that in his role as Finance Committee liaison to the Human Services <br />Committee, he will be reporting back to the Finance Committee the relevant issues discussed at the <br />Human Services Committee meetings he attends. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Review of Minutes from May 28, 2015. <br />Ruth Elias made a motion that the minutes from the May 28, 2015 meeting be approved as <br />presented. John Cahalane seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: Elias, yes; Glener, yes; <br />Cahalane, yes; Walford, yes; Mohler-Faria, yes; Waterman, yes. The motion was approved by a <br />vote of (6-0). <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />• Measurable Goals for the Committee for the Coming Year <br />Chairman Janice Walford expressed her interest in having a discussion about some measurable <br />goals that the committee could undertake for the coming year, followed by hearing from Gail Wilson <br />as to her goals for the coming year. The Committee would then determine what they might do to <br />help Gail Wilson achieve her goals. Janice Walford reminded the committee that the Mission <br />Statement of the Human Services Department, as stated on its website, is "to connect Mashpee <br />residents with resources and solutions in times of need with the goal of building a strong and <br />integrated community. The Department mission is to serve Mashpee residents through consultation <br />and assessment, information and referral, and advocacy, to provide assistance with parent and child <br />issues, depression, anxiety, stress, substance abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, grief, <br />trauma, emotional and behavioral issues and fuel assistance." Janice Walford pointed out that there <br />is no mention of Food Pantries, and also observed that most of the assistance offered falls into the <br />realm of counseling by the Director of Human Services. <br />Elinor Glener suggested that one of the goals for the Committee should be to increase the funds <br />available to give to the agencies the Department supports, to help Gail meet their needs.
