2014-2015 QUASHNET SCHOOL COUNCIL <br />Meeting: Tuesday, March 3, 2015-3:15 PM to 4:15 PM <br />Quashnet School Conference Room <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Patricia DeBoer, Principal; Margaret Morrison, School Adjustment Counselor; Stephanie Manning, Teacher; <br />Colleen Fraser, Parent; Kathy O'Neill, Parent; Sarah Provencher, Parent (Also present: Mashpee Enterprise Reporter Ryan Bray) <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Jack Phelan, Community Member at large <br />Our Four Maior Areas of Responsibility: <br />1. Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student <br />performance standards <br />2. Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school <br />3. Reviewing the annual school building budget <br />4. Minutes from our 213115 School Council meeting were approved. <br />2. We finalized our 2015 Parent Survey. Survey link was emailed to families on Friday, March 6, 2015. The survey will remain <br />open until Monday, March 16, 2015. We made the following final changes to the survey—prior to the survey link being <br />emailed to families: <br />A. Insert as Question #2: My child/children currently receive(s) the following additional services/supports at the <br />Quashnet School: Answer choices --Enrichment, Special education services, Social emotional support, Health- <br />related support, not applicable <br />B. The following questions were slightly adjusted (wording): <br />The Quashnet School teachers show respect for my child. (#6) <br />The Quashnet School meets the social and emotional needs of my child. (#9) <br />The Quashnet School meets the academic needs of my child. (#10) <br />The instructional program at the Quashnet School is challenging for my child/children, (#22) <br />The Quashnet School succeeds at preparing my child for the next grade level. (#24) <br />My concerns are addressedfacknowledged with respect and in a timely manner. (#35) <br />3. Family -to -Family Mentoring Program: Possible name for program ---"FALCON FAMILIES" <br />Start small -2 to 3 families <br />Transportation element <br />Look into liability for mentor families <br />Boundaries <br />Training <br />Send email to all families --describing our plans and seeking mentor families. <br />Follow up in the blog. <br />Connect with Big Brother/Big Sister organization—their advice <br />Schedule first dinner: At our meeting we talked about Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 6:00 – 7:30 PM <br />(I checked the master calendar—our tentative date conflicts with our STEAM night—possible other date: <br />Monday, April 13, 2015) <br />At dinner—First: fun activity involving parents and children; then everyone eats together; children leave for supervised <br />activity; icebreaker (challenge all parents face); maybe a guest speaker <br />
