mentioned that on July 6th,a fund raising party is planned at the Popponesset Inn with the
hopes of raising$250,000.00. He said that nearly$150,000 in donations was raised this
past winter. Ken mentioned that if the outer channel was extended 300 yards,it would end
in six feet of water at mean low tide.
Chairman Bates discussed the 6 new Town meeting Articles for the fall town meeting.
Funding for the anticipated expenses for comprehensive permit preparation, inner channel
dredge,$20,000.00 funding for the MPD for waterways equipment such as aids to
navigation. Ken also discussed the relationship with the town and Save the Bay
organization regarding the approach channel extension to Popponesset Bay. Stephen Mone
mentioned the deteriorating condition of the Great river channel into Waquoit Bay.Al
Wickel agreed that the situation is very bad and that many boaters were complaining of
contact with the bottom as they navigate in the center of the channel at any tide level.
Stephen was concerned as the condition worsens many boats would be unable to leave
Great River as well as Little River Marina at times other than high tide. Ken Bates noted
that there were limited funds and limited time right now to address the problem but hoped
upon completion of the Town Comprehensive permit plan that the Waterways' Commission
could turn their efforts to Waquoit Bay issues.
Motion was made to present the articles for town meeting to the town Administer,as Ken
explained, by Stan Healy and 2nd by Don MacDonald and unanimously approved.
Motion to adjourn was made by Bill Taylor and 2nd by Don Barton at 1052 AM.
