Mashpee Waterways Commission <br /> Minutes of the June 9th,2015 Meeting <br /> Vice Chairman Don MacDonald called the meeting to order at 9:05 AM at the Mashpee <br /> Town Hall in the Ockway Meeting Room. <br /> Present:Al Wicket, Stan Healy, Bill Taylor, Don MacDonald, Don Barton <br /> Absent: Tim Leedham, Ken Bates <br /> Also present: Stephen Mone, Harbormaster and Rick York,Shellfish Warden <br /> Motion was made by Bill Taylor, 2nd by Don Barton and unanimously approved to accept <br /> minutes as corrected for the May 12th, 2015 Waterway's Commission meeting. <br /> Communications and Correspondence: Invitation for pending retirement of Joyce Mason <br /> Harbormaster Report: Officer Mone reported that the town was advertising for two <br /> assistant harbor master positions for the coming summer months. He also reported that <br /> the new pump out boat would be arriving in July. The 450 gallon capacity center console <br /> that was funded by the Federal clean water act. Finances are still an issue. Stephen stated <br /> that his expenses have exceeded$25,000 for invoices already. He also is in need of <br /> repairing the Blue Fin to a work boat since the working barge sank The cost for conversion <br /> is about$7500.00. He hopes to address the tremendous amount of debris that is laying up <br /> on the shores in the grasses left from the destruction the ice caused during this past winter. <br /> A substantial discussion followed where the concerns in all Mashpee waters are adding up <br /> and needed to be addressed. Don MacDonald noted that a formal review of all needs <br /> including fresh water issues needed to be listed and prioritized as an agenda item to <br /> provide more clarity for future funding commitments.A vast majority of funding outlays <br /> seem to be dedicated to Popponesset Bay but discussions continued as to where the <br /> majority of mooring revenues originated. Several members of the board agreed that for the <br /> purposes of transparency and parity,the Commission should revue funding and <br /> expenditures as they relate to the various waters of the town to support both past and <br /> future spending priorities. <br /> Shellfish Constable Report: Rick York informed us that he has 2 million seed in the up- <br /> weller and 2300 remote set bags on order. He is looking at the next propagation efforts in <br /> Shoestring Bay. June 23rd at 1600hrs is the date and time set for waterways training at <br /> Little River town dock. Rick also mentioned he is in need of help.Waterway's assistants <br /> could use 4-6 more folks,including a pump-out boat operator. Historically we have at least <br /> nine assistants he mentioned. <br /> Mashpee Wakeby Report: Don MacDonald mentioned that power up shoaling was <br /> worsening. Don also mentioned that Ken was working with Town officials for acquiring <br /> equipment to remove the shoal. DPW is looking for advice on signage to educate boat <br />
