The chair <br /> announced that after being considered by Town Counsel, it was determined that today's meeting <br /> would be a public meeting and could not be held in Executive Session. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Interviews <br /> 1:00 p.m. Saltine Warrior,Inc. <br /> John Pearson, President of Saltine Warrior, was present at the meeting to provide additional <br /> information regarding his response to the RFP. Mr. Pearson summarized his proposal that would <br /> utilize approximately one acre of asphalt paved space and a rail siding on the north side for road <br /> salt storage. Mr. Pearson described his operation of shipping 40,000 tons of salt by sea to Fall <br /> River, adjacent to the rail service. The rail line is currently out of service, but Mr. Pearson has <br /> contacted the DOT about reopening the 3,000 feet as well as refurbishing 3 miles of track in <br /> North Falmouth. Mr. Pearson added that his work experience has been in Business Development <br /> with MassCoastal so he was aware of the work needed to open or access the rail lines. Mr. <br /> Pearson hoped to transload some salt by rail car directly to the UCRTS. Among the advantages, <br /> Mr. Pearson noted that there would be a pricing advantage since just one railroad would be <br /> involved. Mr, Pearson added that a fabric and steel framed structure, with no utilities, would be <br /> installed at the site for salt storage to maintain a dry supply. Mr. Pearson would utilize the scale <br /> on the property, and would need a desk and computer to operate the scale. Additionally, one or <br /> two pieces of machinery would be needed to unload the salt, as well as a portable conveyer. A <br /> loader would be needed to shape the pile and perform loading tasks, so Mr. Pearson expressed <br /> interest in the UCRTS' loader.
