1
MASHPEE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMMITTEE MINUTES
JANUARY 10, 2008
Present: Robert Wooldridge, William Dundon, Beverly Wooldridge, Charles Maintanis, Trish
Parolski, Merton Sapers, Terrie Cook, Patricia Lugo.
The meeting opened at 2 p.m.
The Minutes of the November S, 2007 meeting were accepted as presented.
The Board of Selectmen approved Patricia Lugo, School Business Manager,to be appointed to
the ADA Committee as the liaison for the school.
Trish Parolski reported on the Planning and Construction Committee meeting that met on
December 4, 2007. There is a meeting tonight at the Senior Center. The architect for the Library
will be present. The company chosen is Pomroy, the second highest bidder. A project manager
needs to be named. They will need to move to a temporary location for about 20 months.
Barbedo has been hired for the Fire Station. Groundbreaking is scheduled for March I". Peter
White spoke on solar energy.
Greg Taylor is retiring in February 2008 as DPW Director. Catherine Laurent will become the
interim director.
Mert Sapers reported on the parking enforcement program stating that no money has been
collected recently.
Charlie Maintanis is working on Handicapped parking spaces near Marshall's;they have to be
re- located to the closest, easily accessible spaces nearest the store.
Bob Wooldridge attended a Planning Board meeting. A sheet with"H"parking requirements on
the street was given out. The comments were "not feasible".
Two samples of Mobi Mat for the beach were passed around. The cost for 100'x 5' wide is
$7,000. It comes as a kit with posts. It is used in Eastham.
The Town Manager reviewed the draft policy relative to minimum Standards of Access or
Visitability in residential housing and declined support because these proposed standards are
unrealistic and unenforceable. Voluntary practices soon become mandatory standards based on
public perception. The minimum standards include, a zero-step entrance, at least 32 inches clear
space in doorways and hallways on the entry level, and a bathroom on the entry level so a person
in a wheelchair can use it unassisted and with dignity. All we can do is strongly urge the
Architectural Access Board to incorporate the minimum accessibility standards into the
appropriate Massachusetts building codes.
