Selectman Sherman will discuss the Affordable Housing Trust VIith the Board of <br /> Sclectmen. <br /> -Mashpee village, Jim Perrine <br /> Mr. Perrine was unable to attend tonight's meeting, and would like to attend the September meeting. <br /> Chairman Abbott expressed concern about previous discussion regarding matching funds from the <br /> Town to assist with the project. Ms. Egloffresponded that snatching funds could also be in-kind <br /> services such as services received from a town department and based on salary. Committee members <br /> agreed that more information. as needed. <br /> Karen Sunnarborg Communication <br /> The Chair suggested consideration of Ms. Sunnarborg's services should a parcel of land be eligible for <br /> development. Ms. Egloff noted that services in excess of$4,999 would require an RFP process. Ms. <br /> Egloff recommended maintaining a folder of consultants for future reference. <br /> Cooperative Housing Discussion <br /> Chairman Abbott reported that a citizen recommended consideration of cooperative housing in i <br /> Mashpee. Ms. Egloff indicated that Alchemy Farm was the only local cooperative housing <br /> community. The Chair researched additional information and suggested that it may not be a fit for the <br /> Committee. Ms. Egloff suggested that cooperative housing may be more of a grass mots approach to <br /> housing. There was a discussion about the similarities and differences of cooperative lousing and <br /> condorm*ni rn associations and its focus on corn unity. Committee members did not disagree with the <br /> concept if it matched the goals of providing affordable housing. <br /> Affordable Housing units Report <br /> The Chair reported that development was occurring, but not affordable housing, and referenced the <br /> Barnstable Counter Affordable Units report from the Cape Cod Commission. The Chair noted that <br /> Mashpee's 2010 gear-round units totaled 6,473 with 2.24 affordable units, reducing the rate to 3.5%. <br /> Mr. Johnson suggested the need for larger, multiple affordable housing. There was discussion about <br /> Orleans' affordable housing rate that increased from 7.7%to 8.9%and interest in learning more about <br /> Orleans' affordable housing efforts. The Chair suggested that Orleans had more clustered units. Ms. <br /> gloff inquired about whom in Orleans collaborated to develop affordable housing. Mr. Johnson <br /> i planned to follow up with a friend from Orleans and the Chair suggested inviting a representative to <br /> discuss their successes. The Chair also referenced comparisons to Harwich, which also has a higher <br /> rate of affordable housing units. Copies of the document will be provided to members of the <br /> Committee. <br /> Housing Institute Session,Berkeley Johnson <br /> Mr. Johnson reported that the session provided valuable information. Mr. Johnson stated that the best <br /> way to develop affordable housing appeared to be when individuals outside of affordable housing <br /> committees, such as a church, led an awareness program to educate the community about the value of <br /> affordable housing. Ms. Egloff responded that education and awareness about the need for affordable <br /> } housing was part of the Committee's mission. Vis. glo#f'noted that there was initial discussion about <br /> each member of the Conunittee speaking to various groups throughout Mashpee to discuss the benefits <br /> and encourage group support of affordable housing. The brochure would also be part of distributing <br /> information to the groups. Selectman Sherman stated that she would follow up v ith Selectman <br /> Richardson about the status of the brochure. Chairman Abbott recommended that a Power Point <br /> presentation be developed to be used during presentations. It was suggested that ibis. Egloff and Mr. <br /> Detschel could work together to gather'Information to create a presentation, including the value of <br />
