efforts were expanded this year with personal meetings with Mashpee professionals, working <br /> vnth lower income renters and meeting with individuals at the Mashpee Tribal Council. <br /> Regarding the three Domes currently being constructed in Mashpee, 39 applications were <br /> received and 13 applications were qualifid and entered into the lotteries for the homes. The <br /> Foxhill load home is tight to theweather-with rough plumbing and electrical and is targeted to <br /> be completed by March 1, 2011. The women-built Timberlane home has rough electrical in <br /> place and siding is being installed and is expected to also be completed in March. The <br /> Lakewood Road home has a completed roof th windows recently installed and should be <br /> completed by April 2011. Two of the homeowners are Mashpee residents and one is a resident <br /> of Sandwich and all homeowners are employed full time. <br /> ir. 1rody emphasized the importance of fostering relationships with families who live ire the <br /> homes. Mr. Brody noted that applicants qualifying for the lottery have need and an ability to pay <br />: with a willingness to partner and have household incomes of less than 4 5% of the median income <br /> ofl Barnstable County. Mr. Brody reported that Habitat begins wi th incomes of less than 5% of <br /> the median income of the County and suggested that these homes are reaching into the deeper <br /> needs of the community. Each homeowner is paired with a mentor to assist with the Habitat for <br /> Humanity process and th budgeting the sweat equity investment in the borne. For single <br /> parent homes, individuals perform 250 hours and two parent homes contribute 500 hours. �. <br /> Brody also noted that it tales approximately 7.5 months to construct a home. Homeowners also <br /> attend 4 homebuyer workshops. <br /> Mr. Brody reported that 170 corn musty volunteers from churches, schools, clubs and businesses <br /> have assisted with onsite construction since the first home's construction was initiated in July <br /> 2010. Mr. Brody added that other community groups have provided meals and daily devotions. <br /> Mr. Brody also announ ed that National Grid and Cape Air have been solid-contributors to the <br /> local Habitat projects. <br /> Mr. Brody emphasized Mashpee's generosity in supporting the 2010 May Town Meeting Article <br /> 11 that transferred the title to 3 parols at 9 and 6 Park way and 10 Tritown Circle. Five <br /> r <br /> additional parols-have been set aside to be used as nitrogen credit properties. leo RFP has been <br /> released by the Board of Selectmen for the land. Mr. Brody discussed the sometimes <br /> competitive bidding process that occurs with land for affordable Dousing and emphasized <br /> Habitat's ability to acquire volunteer labor and discounted materials while offering zero interest <br /> -25 year mortgages. Mr. Brody anticipates being able to offer$125,000 houses next year. Mr. <br /> Johnson questioned whether an RFP can be worded in such a way to discourage others from <br /> bidding competitively, as has been done on Martha's vineyard. Ms. Egloff questioned whether <br /> Habitat follows up with communities to inquire about the reasons for losing the bid or whether <br /> the community was pleased with the results of the successful bidder. W. Brody responded that <br /> they have not pursued such feedback. Ms. Egloff and Mr. Brody also discussed the benefits o <br /> involving the owner in the construction process and the ways in which their efforts provide them <br /> with a feeling of empowerment. Mr. Brody added that Habitat builds to Energy Star standards <br /> and LEED standards and described a recently built 13 unit neighborhood in Harwich whereby <br /> Habitat's 8 units were indistinguishable from the remaining 5 units constructed by contractors. <br /> 2 <br />
