Board of Assessors Meeting Page
Minutes of The Meetin f September 6r 1994 continued
computers - Informational Seminars continued
present PCs are underpowered. The `Down clerk may receive two
PCs ; Leisure Services may receive one; the Town Accountant may
receive two; the Personnel Department and the Board of Appeals
( Zoning) very probably will receive one - neither one has a PCI-
the
I-
the Board of Health needs one as a replacement. The PCs cost
about $1 , 0 - $1 , 0 each ; the software packages with the
training may cost up to $10 , 000 .
Vice Chairman DeLory inquired if the Town Clerk will be able
to access from Its new PC software important information from the
Assessing Department, such as deeds , change of addresses, etc.
David Bailey explained that the original plan included this
option; however , both of these departments will probably be using
different software . Perhaps a disc of data from Assessing could
be prepared and submitted to the Town Clerk for use on the new
P . Assessing still needs to meet with the Town Clerk to decide
how this issue will be handled. Robert DeLory inquired i
additional funds over the present $60 , 000 will be necessary. Mr.
Bailey informed that if the present decision is successful , the
entire amount for the overall new computer system with hardware,
software, and training will probably be in the range of $250 , 000;
this will not include switching over the Possessing Department ' s
present system, which is the most successful among all Mashpee '
Town Offices . He expressed opinion that there is no urgency for
Assessing to spend perhaps $30 , 000 now to switch; the Department
very probably will be the last to switch on to a new Town system
if It even switches at all. ! ! Discussion followed.
Leslie Greig inquired why Assessing would have to switch if
It is satisfied with the present Patriot system. David Bailey
explained that the only advantage would be integration with all
the other Departments . A decision will have to be made
eventually by the Assessing Department if switching- .on to the new
Town computer system will be advantageous if all the other
Departments experience tremendous success with the system. As
example, an address change by Assessing would be recorded
instantly on software used by any other Departmen. He expressed
opinion that the present is not the time to spend a great deal of
money to switch while everyone is learning and while the new
system is being tested. Mr. Bailey recommended that a Lape o
Assessing data be loaded, perhaps weekly, for use to other
Departments .
Leslie Greig inquired if the Patriot Properties software
system could be recommended as the new system for the entire
Town. Mr . Bailey stated that the possibility exists ; however, he
M
