TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> BOARD OF ASSESSORS <br /> Meeting of Monday, November 28, 2005 <br /> Board Members Present: Also Pre ent: <br /> Jason Streebel, Chairman John Duffy: Director of Assessing <br /> Marcia King, Clerk <br /> Chairman Jason Streebel called the meeting-to order at 7;00 PS I. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Approval of Minutes <br /> Marcia ding made a motion to approve: as written, the minutes from the meeting of the Board of <br /> Assessors herd on Monday, November 7, 2005. Jason Streebel seconded the motion. All <br /> approved. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> The purpose of today's meeting was to decide upon a Board of Assessors recommendation to the <br /> Board of Seltrnen and the flahpee Water District as to the tax classification rater and also <br /> whether or not to recommend a residential and/or small business tax exemption. <br /> Marcia Ding crude a motion that the Board of Assessors recommend to the Board of Selectmen <br /> and the Water District that the Town stay with one tax classification rate. Jason Streebel <br /> seconded the motion. All approved. 4 <br /> Jason Streebel commented that a small business exemption has the effect of shifting the burden <br /> to people who don't use the services as often as the Town residents. Marcia,ding concurred with <br /> this observation. <br /> Marcia King made a motion that the Board of Assessors recommend that the Board of Selectmen <br /> and-the Water District not adopt a residential-or a small business tax exemption. Jason Streebel <br /> seconded the motion. All approved. <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> Jason Streebel commented on changes in the clause 18 Hardship Exemptions which have been <br /> passed into fain. You no longer need to be all three- aged, infiirmed and impoverished -in order <br /> to be eligible for exemption. If you are one of the three you may apply.
