i
i
CIP Committee
Minutes
December 17, 2002
Li br : (continued)
In fiscal year 2005', capital improvement needs estimate construction of
the Library building project at $4,000,000. The figure is based on the
need of 20,000 square feet at the construction rate of$200 per-square foot.
Friends of the Library are undertaking a capital campaign to raise
$1,000,000. The balance or $3,000,000 would be the Town's-portion of
the project proponent to be raised through bond appropriation.
During construction it will be necessary for the Library to relocate.
Operations during the construction phase of the project would require
4,000 square feet. At an estimated cost of$25 per square foot, the need
for temporary space would require an additional $100,000 per year.
Temporary site locations.such as the former Senior Center and the use of
office trailers were briefly considered. It was agreed that the cost
projections for temporary Library space would be considered a part of the
overall Library building project in fiscal year 2005.
Leisure Services:
Gus Frederick, Director of Leisure Services prioritized the repair of the
tennis court at the Quashnet School as an urgent capital improvement
program need for his department.
The tennis courts are utilized extensively at this location for school aged
children attendir g the Quashnet and Coombs Schools. It was noted that
courts located at the high school are used heavily and are not convenient
for after school and sun ner Leisure Service programs.
Two tennis courts and a basketball court arero sed at the Quashnet
p
School site location. Estimated price quotations were received last year.
The project is deemed a safety issue. Photographs were presented to
depict the extent of the damage. The amount requested for a painted
asphalt surface, a less expensive option for the courts is $77,000. It was
noted that the surrounding-fencing is also in disrepair.
The CIP Committee requested that updated price quotations be obtained
for the project proposal to include new vinyl coated chain link fencing.
