Cemetery Commission <br /> September 13, 2002 <br /> Members present: Ernest Virgdio, Mike Scirpoli, Charles nckle <br /> Others: Catherine Laurent <br /> E. Vi rcarilio opened the meetin cy at I I:0 0 a.m.. The meeting was held at the new cemetery <br /> on Great Neck Road South in order for the Cornnuissin to review the status o <br /> cemetery's completion. <br /> The Commission walked through the cemetery. C. Laurent pointed out the deficiencies <br /> and the work scheduled to be undertaken vthin the next several weeks. This work <br /> includes: <br /> Resetting the bluestone cap in the #lag island (stores loose) <br /> Weedincr the walkways and planting beds <br /> Removing the dead plants (bushes-and trees which did not survive summer <br /> Or" Relocating seven trees (planted too close together or too close to existin trees) <br /> . Planting three additional tress at the entrance (to create balanced entry "canopy") <br /> Extending bluestone walkwav around colurnbariurn <br /> The Commission discussed the suable pines left within the plot sections and the natural <br /> areas separating the sections and along Great Neck Road South. The Commission agreed <br /> to remove the pines andclear/selectively prune the natural areas. <br /> The Commission looked at the memorial shelter and the bluestone patio. The <br /> Commission observed that a preservative/protectant had not been applied to the wood <br /> shelter and requested that this be done. The Corr rm'ssion also observed that the patio was <br /> uneven and may pose a hazard_ The Commission requested that the bluestone be relaid. <br /> The Commission looked at the entrance. The Corrm*ssion discussed installing granite <br /> curbing along the driveway entrances and extending it into the cemetery, to better <br /> identify and formalize the entrance. The Cemetery also discussed im rov'ng the <br /> landscaping and adding stonewalls. E. Virgifio'informed the Commission that he had <br /> asked a landscape architect to suggest improvements. <br /> The Commission agreed to schedule similar visits to the other cemeteries in Ma hp e <br /> under their jurisdiction. <br /> The meeting adjourned at 12 p.m.. <br /> .
