4 <br /> C it Preservation Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> April 10, Zoo <br /> APPOINTMENTS Al HEARINGS:' <br /> Historical Commission—Mash ee Archeological Surve . <br /> Lee Gurney,Mashpee Histories Commission Charm was in attendance t <br /> request CPA funding Mn the amount of$20,000 to conduct <br /> ree n ai n e-le el archeological surrey of.the entire Town of Mashpee <br /> to identify,preserve and protect archeological and cultural resources. <br /> It was noted the Town is moving forward to create a Historic District. An <br /> architectural survey was completed in the year 2000. A reconnaissance- <br /> level archeological survey is needed to protect the Town's historic and <br /> cultural resources. Although there is no digging required to complete the <br /> intended survey,here may be core sampling. Research and reports <br /> related to the study will confmn dere are'known sites in Mashpee and <br /> data would be used to create predictive modeling of where other sites are <br /> likely to be found in Mashpee. The research firm would need permission <br /> to entr private and/or public property. <br /> The project timeline is anticipated to take -12 months. Presently'. grant <br /> funding is difficult to obtain. The Town of Bedford,the first town to <br /> adopt the CPA conducted this type of survey using CPA funding. <br /> It was noted that three properties in Mashpee are listed on the Historic <br /> Register. The properties include the Indian Museum,the Old'Indian <br /> Meetinghouse and the One Room*Schoolhouse. x. <br /> Discussion followed regarding the Mashpee ampano g gibe and future <br /> endeavors to employ the services-of a Tribal Historic Preservation officer <br /> to oversee ancestral lands. It was noted that this position would equal that <br /> of a state preservation officer. <br />
