S
Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
November 1 , 2008
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
John West—sale of Land_ or Affordable Housi
John and Cynthia West, 26 Russell Roa , llashpee were in attendance t
discuss their application seeking CPA finding to purchase land for
affordable housing.
The proposed lot is located on Monomoscoy Island with deeded rights of
gray on both Great River and Little River. The CPA fhnding request is
$55,,000 for the lot identified on Assessing Map 120 as Parcel 29.
In Mr. West's application, it was disclosed that many of the houses and
building lots in the nearby vicinity are similar in size to this proposed lot;
however, the local zoning laws would not allow building on this lot
without a variation in the building laves. Mr. Fest"s application states the
proposed affordable housing designation would most likely enable it to
obtain the necessary zoning variations.
It was noted that Mr. West had a potential buyer of the property last year
and a Title v system was deemed adequate at the subject site location for
conventional single family.
Mr. Vest indicated that he has discussed the possibility of building a
hone at this location with Habitat for Humanity if this land were donated
to them from the Community Preservation Corrmmission. Habitat for
Humanity was noted to be receptive of this proposal. The CPC requested
a letter of intent from Habitat for Humanity endorsing this concept.
Mr. Fest added the land 'Is surveyed and ready for the acquisition. A map
of the property identified as Lot 1 containing 11,500 square feet is
designated as#12 Russell Rad,llashpee.
In addition to the endorsement later from Habitat for Humanity, the CPC
requested the applicant submit letters of support to the proposal for love
income housing in this area.
r
