r• <br /> �.� OVATION COMMSSION <br /> Mimit a of December 2, 1993 <br /> Commissioners Pre-sent: Su ana I nnikGertrude inions-Ferriday,, John Johansen, <br /> Pain Averett, Tack Fitzsimmons, Richard Rhodes,, <br /> 4 <br /> The meeting was called to order at 6.-55 p.m. <br /> PUNffC CaMMENT PERIOD: Ben Cordon carne forward to speak on CCA treated lumber <br /> and turned over to the Commission articles he obtained on the subject. He has con- <br /> cluded that -CCA presents negligible environmental risk. <br /> In summary, the material is in agreement with what he told the Commission one month <br /> ago. He suggested that the Commission,, for the time being, continue to allow CCA <br />! treated lumber to be used for structures until a better alternative material be- <br /> m s a ailable. The American Wood Preservers Association is working. to develop <br /> a Seal of Approval for treate&lumber upon which they will engrave a fish shape <br /> that indicates that the entire chemical process has been completed; the fixation <br /> process is completed and they are developing a Chrorotrophic Acid Test that en- <br /> sures that fixation is complete.. . <br /> There is the possibility of a new preservative to be used in lumber 'called AC <br /> preserve. He is sending for more information on this. It is touted that this <br /> material is the wood that deters rot,- deay and termites without arsenic or <br /> chromium, <br /> In the future, perhaps plastic lumber will become practical ; at present, it does <br /> i <br /> not have adequate strength and not available in large sizes to replace a piling. <br /> Mr. Gordon'-s suggested is to allow CCA to be used at present but review the sit- <br /> uation on a yearly basis. <br /> Mr. Sherman advised he spoke with Duncan York who advised the research at Spring_ <br /> born Labs clearly showed that there is no leakage. <br /> Mr. Fitzsimmons thanked Dr. Cordon for his work. <br /> The Chair .appointed the Associate Members as voting members. <br /> { <br /> 7:00 Joh E.
