Mr. Ellis stated this will begin the second week in May. The
Summerwood contract was put out to bid, was readvertised a second time, and delayed.
Conversations were held with the gas company to try to mace it a cooperative venture
but the district could not crake it. The gas company had a wandering 10 inch gas line
and they replaced it with two lines, orae on top of the other,, and moved away from the
pavement for the water district whi h put them in an area of more problems with the
commission. When the district goes through, they will be right below the guard rail .
Mr, Sherman advised the Commission had a few problems with Colonial Gas regarding
erosion control .
Mr. Ellis advised the District did cross over at Quinaquisset Avenue and go to
Orchard Road. They have not yet made it to the Mashpee River. The 16 inch pipe
is the rain trunk line. They will be Doing into the well at a location near what
was formerly Ramsgate at Route 28. The pipe drops down to 12 inch; the other large
one is at Route 151 ,
Mr. Halpern ash ed how they will be going to Seton set Island, M . Ellis did not know-,
. there are several options. They may end up on Se onset with a drinking water system.
Putting in a tank is an option. He advised Falmouth does not want to be in the water
business with Mashpee, He spoke further on a desalinization system.
Mr. York advised there is a small wetland the later District gent through on Cranberry
Ave. in Br i a rwood. Mr. Ellis stated he was not aware.
Ms Behrman syggested when they are going in with new pipe., drive the area with the
agent. Mr. Ellis agreed, he did not foresee any big problems. He advised that, in
a solution with Otis, a well north and oast of Briarwod might require piping don
dirt road which is conservation land. He cited a problem with Fish and Wildlife,
1 .S. .S. has been assisting the district. Mashpee has more water than anywhere on
the cape. Fish and wildlife take the attitude that development of a water system i
contrary to their interests.
Mr. Ellis further advised the P-1 well is going 2000 feet from the Quashnet to the
west and 1500 feet north to the Falmouth line. , A map was shown.
Ms Behrman advised she received a call from Trout Unlimited re cutting done and
stated before any cutting is done, the Commission should be contacted first*
Mr. Ellis apologized for two pines out that should not have been. He advised they
should be pumping water from the well by May 20 and supplying water to Route 2
by that date. Briarwood should be receiving water by mid-May. It is tested and
chlorinated to the Commons, '
Ms Behrman asked where it is disposed of when it is flushed out? Mr. Ellis stated
it is flushed out onto the ground. Ms Behrman stated this would be a concern,
especially with chlorinated water. Mr. Ellis stated they do not have to run the
water out at the Mashpee Kiger; they can test it further up at the basins.
Concerning the necessity for chlorination, this was explained as being necessary as
Mashpee will be using water from Falmouth which has a surface system. The acidity
will be corrected and they will sequester the iron.
