s
Conservation Commission
June 28, 1990
Page 2 .
I . RENEE KING FLA: A resident for three years , she did naturalist
work at South Cape Beach and Washburn Island, was a marina mammal
observer at Woods Hole and is now with the Thornton Burgess Society.
She has a masters degree in environmental science . Conservation has
been het career, working in environmental education and research. She
was involved with vernal pool certification in Sandwich and offered
to volunteer in different projects .
Concerning home rule and the Commission' s regulations being stricter,
she feels there should be as much -protection as possible.
Regarding increased recreational boating and the impact on shellfish,
she was not very familiar but is interested in controlling engines
and regulating use
JAMIE G e has requested to be reinterviewed and will be sched-
uled for the next hearing date .
7 : 30 CHARLES NIRENFR , For the construction and maintenance of a
wooden stairway over the coastal bank and existing rip-rap wall t
the bead below at L t 526 Triton Way, Atty. Albert Schulz presented
abutter receipts . fir. Sherman net with Atty. Schulz and agreed the
X 4 platform will help. All work will be done by hand. Sono tubes
will be sunk in concrete, poured. The only change from the original
plan is the platform. The structure is 46 feet .
Asked if the rip-rap is in place, Mr. Schulz stated it is .
Mr . Coffey questioned the necessity and possible impact to install
the sono tubes on the bank with 8" footings, ' deep. He suggested
the 4 X 4 posts be installed without the concrete unless they advise
how they propose to install them, re'move the dig-out, transport the
concrete, wording top to bottor or bottom to top, etc . He felt it
is more work than needs to be done and a lot more disturbance to the
bank.
Mrs. Simmons asked if it would be agreeable if it were conditioned
without sono tubes .
Mr. Schulz stated- it would be agreeable to Mr. Nirenber ; they would
go along with eliminating therm. If Wm. Warwick, the engineering firm,
feels strongly that they should be used, they would come back in.
CLOSED - ORDER of CONDITIONS IN 21 DAYS.
7:45 Vincent Porciello, Jr. , 9 Tide Run Way, Continued hearing. Norman
Mayes had asked to reopen this application. When they came before the
Commission with a Notice of Intent , it was rightfully denied because
the existing float was pile anchored and a permanent structure re-
quiring an ENF. There is an existing float on an approved license
allowed under Chapter 91 . The harbormaster authorized the float to
be in place on the appropriate moorings An order of conditions was
given for a coastal bank walkover structure and a certificate of
compliance granted. They have a document from the Div. of Waterways
stating no Chapter 91 license is required because the float is not
structure , not a dock or pier; it is a seasonal bottom-anchored float .
