William Burtis appeared and Mr. Burtis said that he has taken <br /> over Crowell's property on Seconsset Island and is trying to get it back in can <br /> dition, adding that you have to maintain what you have. The two storms we had <br /> kind of filled in the slips. Waterways went along with it and advised him t cone <br /> before the Commission* The original number is #5938, dated in 1971. <br /> He said the work would c ons is t of about a day's digging ,- it has filled in <br /> against the bulkhead -» if he tries to put a sailboat in there, he is kind o <br /> hitting the bottom a little bit - at the bulkhead, h i down t about 811 <br /> f water. Mr. Dias said that it seemed like there was a lot of water in there <br /> this Fall. fir. Burtis said that Mr. Dias is talking about where the gas tanks <br /> are - pretty deep there, but not at the slips Mr. Dias said that shellfish is <br /> abundant by the docks. <br /> It was said that the Comndssion has to make a determination as to whether <br /> he Files a Notice of Intent and yrs. DeLory said it would be for maintenance. <br /> Mr. Burtis said that you maintain existing piers, bulkheads and marine railwayso <br /> Fie said that he has gat to try to save the existing things. Mr. Bias said that <br /> he would have t o dredge in front of his slips. Mr . DeLory said that ghat the <br /> Commission was told the other night was to have the Shellfish Warden double-check <br /> and tell us how much shellfish is in the area and what the effect would be. Ir. <br /> Burtis said that he wouldn't be dredging - just digging out. <br /> Mr. Dias said that he would a need a backhoe with a 71 reach, with a drag <br /> bucket on it. Mr. Burtis said thatitfw just the edges from the shore. <br /> Mrs. DeLory said that he will. have�a.�o � e of Intent *nth the Commission and <br /> DQ . Tavares asked haw far out this extends from the bulkhead - 5 or 101? <br /> Mr. Burtis drew a rough sketch for him and said that there's a buildup between <br /> one dock and the bulkhead and he couldn't get a boat in there. He said he would <br /> like to get in there and do that at least and keep the other business going.- Mr. <br /> LeClair asked where Burtis is going to put- it when he takes it out and r. Burtis <br /> said that on this it wouldn't be that much, Mr. Buckingham said that that would <br /> all be in the Notice of Intent. <br /> Yx, Tavares asked Iv r. Dias how much shellfish is in that area and P"Iar. Dias <br /> said that no one shellfishes in the bulkhead area, only out in front - they fish <br /> close because it's deep, but it fs built up with sand. Ir r. Buckingham suggested <br /> that it would be p oSsibl. to replant the fish. Mrs. DeLory expl.aLned about all <br /> the _papers that were necessary to go with the ?notice of Intent. � <br /> Ir. Burtis said that he has "a permit that was approved in 1971 which has run <br /> out - it is to dig out - not in the middle, but betieen what's there now -, this <br /> permit is to go from the pier that's there now. Therets a section in between, <br /> with deep water to the edge - mostly out of water - all sand, very little mud <br /> to the existing slot that's dredged already, which was there when he cam in. <br /> Mr. Dias asked if it was a man-made slat and 11-1r. Burtis said it was* Nor. Bias <br /> asked if it goes into the marsh and Yx. Burtis said there is no marsh there. <br /> Mrs. DeLory suggested that some of the Coramission go down here and view it <br /> so they will be more enlightened. yrs. DeLory said that the permit is to dredge <br /> and was good f rom 1971 to 1976 and has run out now. Mr. Burns said that be has <br />
