i
cer i g the Conservation Fund, raking a total of $21,000.00, It was pointed
out that the Selectmen were the ones who instigated the Soil Survey. llrs.
Studley hasn't called Mr. Staff yet because she wanted to discuss it with
the Commission first. It seems that Conservation i getting the full br nt
of the Soil Survey thing and one would think that the Planning Board would
be in on it but they're not. The Planning Board is working on a new ma ter ;
plan for the town, which is a prerequisite for the Soil Survey. The Commis-
sion doesn't want the figure to go in, because it's too high; there should
* be two separate articles.
Mrs. Studley said that a suggestion had been rade that we put in the aar
ticle concerning the 5l-acre parcel which had previously been tabled orin-
definitely postponed. The parcel, which is town-vaned, is on Route 28. 1t
should be put in not as Conservation land, but as a town forest. It is not
money article and it could still go into the warrant. It is a parcel in
which the title is pretty good as far as the town goes, but it's not known
whether or not the voters would go for it in view of the suit. It is also ,
not known whether or not we can spend any money to re-forest it. It abuts
two roads, Route 28 and Great Hay Road.
Mr. Pocknett is looking into different grants to re-forest a particular
area. The question is whether or not the tin owns the land. we know that.
some _titles are good, but investigation rust -be done on other parcels, be-
-cause it is not nom if it's a clear title. We still have some money which
e could spend. It was suggested that the Torn Engineer be approach# d.
There's no point in s urve3n ng it until we have a clear title. Alan Eaxim
was going to try to find. ' cheaper way o f+getting a surveyor., but the ot 'ier
Selectmen squelched it. All we needed was three--man crew. but unf tu-
nate ly, its went' down the drain.
Mr. Buckingham said that he would think that the Planning Board and the
Board of Health would Plug as much as they can to get this through; we should
put i t to the Selectmen again and make sure that they go through 10th it this
time.
t was stated that we carpi legally spend t •,Conservation n oney n a n
0
forest. 'his surveying job should be a toxin responsibility, not that f a
committee. We have not asked for any funds for a town forest. The TMIn En-
gineer is under contract to the Planning Board and is paid from Legal and
Engineering Account. It's a part-tire position and he's just paid for his
technical kno:Tledge.
Yr.. 3uckint-han, mentioned that he was just at a meeting and hie and that
CEA could possibly do this. ?text year, we should start right after To-an
lie e ti g talking with Assess ors and Planning Board and al-1 go to the S e l e t-
ien .9ind tell them that. this is something they have to do.
