Also present were
Conservation Officer R 6naldocknett, Shellf2*.sh warden Robert Courteman c he and
Constance curtomanch .
Harold Finch, contractor, and Richard Fish, excavator, were present, re-
presenting r. Joseph D. Comallil who wishes to repair and maintain rip-rap lo-
cated at Bluff Avenue and Vineyard Sound, Poppones et, Mashpee, as well a
altering a dwelling.. Mrs. Studley and Mrs. DeLory have been to the abutting
property where the wall has been undermined. The plans were looked at. It was
mentioned that a permit had been .issued under the emergency part of the Act so
that thip person could complete repairs on the wall - there was nothing other
than the wall to be done. Br. Comalli wants to repair this entire seawall.
Mr. Fish presented what he called a rough schematic of what they would like
to do -- showed the existing rip-rap., showing where they would like to erect on
top of the existing wall. Mr. Buckingham asked if they would be encroaching on
4
the beach any more than now and Mr. Fish said "no". - e said they would like to
erect a footing and thea put in a wall. He said It will vary in height, from his
abutter about 1811, and corning at a gradual increase to thea running likewise
n another direction. He would like to also inc .ud n this plan bringing the
wall back about 201, which is not on the schematic at the present time.
Mrs. Studley questioned.oned the 201. It will be inw rd past the house tore-
tain the earth that will be placed behind the gall, giving more added protection
it will vary from its given height. Mrs. Studley asked if he was going to start
from scratch and take the present rip-rap out. He said "nott, they would be digging
behind it, putting a crushed stone footing on top of it, using existing fora, hien
erect concrete wall with key lock.
Mr. Buckingham wanted to know if at present they are having any water action
breaking over. Mr. Fish-said that during_ rr
severe storms, there is breaking action
andit bits the house - they afire quite concerned and that's why they want it.
Where will b some places for 'openings f or water to run through. Mr. Buckingham
mentioned that he couldn It see anything that needed repair, but now he sees -what
Mr. Fish means.
Mrs. Studley said that she and Mrs. DeLory gent to another place and the
beach was comp .etely eroded away._ Since the work has been done, it- has been built
up to a beautiful sandy beach. Mrs. .vane asked if this isn't really just a hold-
ing action. Mrs. Studley said that the ,jetty will probably need repair, too. Mr.
Bias asked how high the stone wall is now and was tolyl 61 o ' it tapers off as
you go around. The bead actually tapers downward away from the jetty and when .it
gets down to the abutter, about 81.
W
Mr. Fish said the stones are locked together with concrete the original was
put In 10 or 12 years ago. The reason for the crushed stone base is because of
the water that may c orae over the top and drain back through the crushed stone
the dirt won't go back on the beach side.
Mr. LeClair questioned the 201 back f rom the gall and Mr. Fish said they would
like to continue the gall - the abutter is gray tap on the end.
