i
}
Enforcement of handicapped parking regulations remains a topic of interest. It was noted that
Chief Collins is stressing enforcement;however, resources and priorities are a.problem in this
busy season. We discussed the possibility of reviewing the feasibility of establishing a civilian
parsing patrol. If one is established,we agreed it should be built around TRLkD and the Civilian
Police Academy graduates. More research is needed on this subject. Charlie reiterated that the
Building Department has been passing out letters to commercial property owners regarding
authorized signage during inspections. They do have a certain amount of leverage over non-
complying property owners by,withholding occupancy permits, liquor licenses, etc.,until the
proper signs are installed. However, the department is stretched thin and is not in position n t
spend much bine on enforcing this. It may be feasible for committee members am TRIAD to
assist in researching addresses and mailing letters to those who have not been given the letter. We
agreed it might be wise to send a courtesy copy of the letters to Chief Collins and the Beard of
Selectmen. With the approval of the Building Department,TRIAD could do the follow-up
legwork to check for compliance at the end of the sixty day period and notify the Building
Department of the stags.
Bob provided a brief update on the status of the initiative to increase awareness of the need for
more accessible housing. The reviews of two projects working their way through the permitting
process,M shpee Woods and Asher's Fath.,have been quite encouraging. The Affordable
Housing Committee and the Zoning Board of Appeals are quite aware of this issue and are
aggressive in questioning developers about heir plans for accessibility. According to the
developers or heir representatives, all units in both projects are to be either fully accessible at
least % or"visitable." Now if Mashpee Commons management will only give similar
consideration to the large Chapter 40B project along Job*s Fishing Roadwe'll really have made
progress.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert H.Wooldrid
Secretary
