Quashnet School Council Minutes <br /> Date: 2/14/2018 <br /> Time: 3:30-4:30 PM <br /> Location: QS Main Office <br /> Council Members in Attendance: MaryKate O'Brien, Tracy Fischer, Andrea Fullam, and Robin <br /> Geggatt. <br /> Norms: <br /> • This is a safe place to speak freely <br /> • Do not be afraid to speak your mind <br /> • Decisions will be agreed upon with a consensus of the group <br /> • Cell phones available,but sound off <br /> • Meetings will be from 3:30-4:30 PM <br /> • Norms can be adjusted with the consensus of the group <br /> Mission: What We Do: <br /> • In partnership with families and the community, our mission is to promote academic excellence and <br /> character development while supporting and celebrating all students as they prepare for college or <br /> career readiness and engage as active citizens. <br /> Vision: Where We Want to Be: <br /> • Our vision is for every student to reach his/her full potential in a respect-filled, safe, and positive <br /> learning environment characterized by high expectations, quality instruction, continuous <br /> improvement, and civic responsibility. <br /> Agenda Item Time Discussion <br /> Welcome - 5 minutes Minutes reviewed. Motion made by R. Geggatt to approve <br /> Review the Minutes minutes, seconded by Tracy Fischer. <br /> of 12/13/17 <br /> Updates 10 minutes 1. Construction-discussed ADA upgrades. Concerned about <br /> Happenings bathroom privacy in staff lounge. <br /> 2. Data review -winter benchmarks reviewed- success in all <br /> grades levels were realized in both Math and ELA data. <br /> Final read and 15 minutes This item was postponed until the March meeting. <br /> revision of Goal 3 of <br /> Blueprint for Progress <br /> 15 minutes Discussion focused on vaping and risky behaviors our students are <br /> FY19 - Specials exposed to.Based on this discussion a proposal was made to add a <br /> Subject Proposed health and wellness special to replace World Languages in Grade 5 and <br /> 6. Since students are given an opportunity in Mashpee Middle School <br /> Change for exposure to world languages,this special in Grade 5&6 seems <br /> redundant. Students are also not receiving instruction on health and <br /> wellness until Grade 7. All members agreed to the proposed change. <br /> Further discussion was on curriculum development,placement of <br /> mindfulness and the GREAT Program into this special to limit <br /> interruptions in core academics. <br /> FY19 - Discussion On 15 minutes The current puberty curriculum was discussed. The focus is primarily <br /> puberty education - on body changes. This instruction currently falls in the spring of Grade <br /> Grade 5 Or Grade 6? 6. With many students already experiencing changes by Grade 6,the <br /> discussion was a to move the workshop to Grade 5. Currently, <br /> Barnstable,Falmouth, Sandwich,and Situate present this curriculum in <br /> Grade 5. It was a unanimous decision to realign this instruction. Mrs. <br /> O'Brien will communicate with families. <br /> Next Steps Next meeting March 7th at 3:30 pm. <br />
