r
d
Inas hpe a Conserva. ion Commission
Me e t i g 'of July 11, 1985
Page Two
further inf ormation about poss i l e impact on s he l if is h and the sad.
marsh from the 'Intensity of the proposed use of the wetlands area
As the Commission is concerned about a possible precedent being set
which would allow for~ too many docks in na igable waters , a. written
6
request is being made to the Harbor Master for his opinion.
George Berkowitz (BSC Cape Cod Surrey Consultants - Agent
This application is to construct a deck,, ramp and float and access stairs
for a small recreational boat at the site of an existing house on the
shore of Jehu Pond at Lot #l3 Tide Run Road, New Seaury,
Arlene veils on, representative for the Agent, presented plans . Ms .
Wilson stated that the supports for the platform a are all above M. He WN
The platform cantilevers out over the little piece of salt marsh.
There are no supports for permanent structures below the high water line ,
The top of the deck is approximately at elevation 6' . That is approxi-
mately 41 over the top of the marsh. The structure gill be constructed
of wood with spaces in between of 111 "in order to allow sunlight ,through
o the marsh. She said that this is not intended for a large boat. All
wood will be treated with non-leaching preservatives * Storage of the
loa.t will be in the garage . The ramp and float can be taken in in the
non-boating season. It will allow for harvesting of any shellfish, I
also minimi es the bottom impacts '. The water is approximately less
than 21 in depth,
The .float is 16, x 161 . All Posts will be installed by hand. Mechanized
equipment will not be necessary.
Ms . Behrman expressed concern that this will restrict access for people
going along the edge of the marsh. Ms . Wilson said, "M experience with
requirements for design of these structures to allow for access is that
if they are 41 clearance underneath that is presumed adequate to walk
underneath and if you have 3' above , i is presumed that someone ca.n
' scramble' oyer it as long as there is ars opening. We would be happy to
provide an opening in the ramp at that kind of aux ele atio e There is
one foot of water at the back of the deck so it really would be possible
o wade out this way and walk over the whole thing. "
Ms . Behrman asked about insurance liability in such a case , Ms . Wilson
replied that 'it was a problem for the insurance carrier.
Ms , Dardano asked for further questions , comments or d'scussion and as
there were none , she declared the hearing closed and stated that the
application would be taken under advisement,
