This year, if the form is not returned, a fine of$250.00 is applied on the tax bill, and the ability
to appeal is lost.
*Exemption Criteria for Clause 22D Veterans
Jason Streebel stated his feeling that the DOR would life to take the issue to court to resolve their
decision as far as how to handle it. Different towns are handling it differently. At the present time
there are 4 or 5 cases in llashpee to be considered. The issue is whether ak veteran has died in
combat or as a result of combat complications, or whether he/she has died of otherwise natural
causes, not related to the time in service. Assessors have been advised that they can rely on any VA
determination of eligibility but they are not required to do so and in its absence they would have to
male an independent determination of that cause from medical documentation provided by the
applicant, subject to appeal. The only interest of the assessors is clarity so that those surviving
spouses intended to be fully exempt will receive that exemption.
* Vote on Chapterland Exemption Application: Chop Chaque Cranberries, Inc.
