'August 2 , 1989
Proposed Regulations
Page 5.
i
better to go by foot rather , than arbitrarily saying a dock.
GAUTHIERv I do want to state it is a substantial increase, The state
fees are substantial but even the Town of Mashpee part on. e footage
is also substantial .
THELMA CAMPTON, Seco set Island: My question is to you, our townsap
people and our Conservation Board, in addition to sending our comments
are you going to make a statement to the state about what you think of
these regulations
CHAIRMAN: Yes, we will,
AM T : Can you tell us what it is
CHAIRMAN: We haven' t had the time to sit down and draft a letter and
we will , in all probability, each make individual comments, but we
will draft one as a Board .
APT : Because this is a sort of emotional appeal , it seems to me
that you could say, "we' ve sacred the shellfish, we' ve saved the whales
and we' ve saved the ospreys, let's save the people of our town and
sage then some money also"' .
CHAIRMAN: we also have to save the environment in order for cis all to
be able to enjoy what we have here.
A PTON -Yes, but if in fact our seawalls, mine is ancient, are found
not to conform , wouldn' t it be Bore detrimental to take it down or S . .
I 've already been refused to repair it, I mean permission to repair
it. . It seems to me that we' re going to cause' more trouble by havinis
to take it down or whatever they would say.
CH
AIRi A Ides, that makes very rood sense
A 4PT N: I would urge you to male a very strong comment.
DON BRACKEN, Engineer: I am not from H s pee so I would life to ask
permission from the Board to speak. I do have some questions that may
be beneficial to the people that are here.
B H AN: I f el if he wants technical questions answered, it should b
done outside of public meeting timet
CHAIRMAN* If you wart to make a comment, we would listen to your
comment.
BRACKEN: I would lake to made a comment on the policy anyway.
Referring to paragraph H, where it says the Haspee Conservation
% Commission In issuing said Order of Conditions may require alterations
in such existing structures so as to minimize damage to resource areas
affected. I was wondering if the Commission was going to develop a
policy as to what changes will be required for certain situations and
also pertaining to the endorsement of a professional engineer, I am
sure there are many structures out there, most of these people have
them, that may not be designed by today' s standards and I ' m not
exactly sure what they' re going to require a professional engineer to
d . Some professional engineers may not want to endorse or stamp an
existing dock that doesn' t meet these construction specifications. I
