ConComm
August 31, 1989
Page 5
is at the Fond Circle Beach. Fourth of July weekend there
were 55 people on that one beach. There is no intent to
destroy grass. The land could be contoured with Railroad
ties and junipers installed. He pointed to an area of two
washouts. 'three or four railroad ties would bring it up to
.he beach level and keep the sand from going into the grater.,
Mike Mi unas, association member: The channel was cleaned and
dredged out to 7-8 feet with a bridge across to allow
boating. The wetland actually does across into Falmouth so
the roan i . a fill. The last developer attempted to male
the beach areas attractive and filled in both areas with
sand. He bulldozed, graded and seeded with grass both
beaches. Since then rainstorms, natural elevation of the
dropping of the pond has changed the elevations at these two
points on both sides of the channel. The bridge has been
removed and now the deepest point is between '* and 48".
The reason for this is the sand that was put in has ended up
in this channel. The vegetation is right to the Mater line,
looking up the channel, there is very little erosion. The
inner pond bottom is peat and vegetation.
Mrs. Simmons asked, if it were possible to stop the erosion
of the sand, people have to get access to the water, would it
make sense to have a foot pier going over the lip to the
water?
Mr. Mi upas stated he would like to see the, sand in the
channel brought back up on the land and no more sand
introduced to the area.
Gene Narr: He stated he understood Ir. Mikunas's concern with
the inner pond becoming a► wetland. Now the pond is 1-1/2'
lower than in the spring,
Mr. Mikunas did not agree, he stated the water level has not
changed in the last six months.
Ctrs. Simmons asked Mr. Narr if he felt ties would be helpful
in containing the beach and he did. He advised one of the
problems is boats going through the chahnei• t a high rate of
speed.
John Harris; 13 years ago the channel was considerable deeper
and has washed down in there. He would lie to see the beach
unproved and wants to be sure here isn't more erosion. The
water is between -4 ft. deep -in the channel.. He agreed with
Fir. Mikun s"s idea of getting the sand hack out.. He also
suggested working on the beach by the boat ramp to alleviate
the pressure.
