MASHPEE CONSERVATIONCOMMISSION <br /> Minutes of February 2, 199 <br /> Commissioners present: Gertrude Ferriday, JohnJohansen, <br /> John Fitzsimmons, Charles Green, Jr. , <br /> `rank Homeyer, Robert Lopez . <br /> The meeting was called to order at :00 p.m. <br /> PUBLIC COMMNT PERIOD: Brian Handy and Steve Ball came before <br /> the board concerning the dog. <br /> Nor. Sherman stated the sanding being done is normal <br /> maintenance but is so close to the river he and the Leigh <br /> Potter have concerns* He asked if there should he hayal.es <br /> Mrs, Ferriday asked if he was bringing the level of the log <br /> up <br /> Mr. Handy advised a lot of the hog has sunk down and he is <br /> trying to bring it up. To put in hay ales would introduce <br /> grass into the whole thing. It is a matter of 1 to 1-1/ <br /> years before it crines in. <br /> Mrs. Ferriday asked if there is something other than hayhales <br /> to stop erosion until the vines establish in the spring? she <br /> asked if bales could be put in the river so that nothing more <br /> can come down? <br /> Mr, Sherman stated someone would have to work in the river <br /> itself to do that , He asked Mr. Handy how much further he <br /> was going, Mr, Handy stated where Mr. Sherman was today is <br /> the end; he has two more sections to finish. <br /> Mr. Ball asked if hayl ales were put in and it was flooded, <br /> would that stop erosion? <br /> Mr, Handy stated water will not be flowing; there should he <br /> no more erosion. He will be done with sanding this weekend. <br /> He has done the same thine at the Coonamesset and never had a <br /> problem. <br /> Mrs. Ferriday stated the Commission has to be doubly <br /> concerned is because this is inside Conservation lana* <br /> Mr. Handy stated Coonamesset liver is also; it is the same <br /> situation. <br /> Mrs. Ferriday stated it would help if the Herring Warden were <br /> present to express his concerns. Mr. Sherman stated they are <br /> the same as the Commission's. He questioned what would be <br /> gained if there is only one days work. <br /> Mr. Hardy stated they have already started to flood up the <br /> other half. - <br /> Mrs, <br /> alf. _lrs. Ferriday asked if that would finish it r. Handy <br /> stated no, they do not have enough time to finish it. He has <br /> lot of new plants out there and wants to get then under <br />
