This was agreed.
Public comments were requested:
Catherine Conroy of south Cape Beach Advisory committee asked
when this would be staked? Mr. Botello advised he would
have this staked by the end of business day on September 7 .
Mr. Sherman suggested continuing to September 22nd to permit
the on-site. This was agreeable to DEM and their counsel.
Mrs. Ferriday stated if the Commission hears from Natural
Heritage and CZM, it would be able to make a decision on
September 22nd.
Maria Weintraub asked if moving the entrance will place it
next to her house? DEM Counsel advised it will be moved
further away and closer to the beach.
Atty. Winifred Woods of south cape Beach Advisory committee a
asked for more explanation on the types of plantings; are
they going to be indigenous to the area? It was stated they
will be pines, sweet fern, huckleberry, sheep laurel, low
bush blueberry and assorted grasses, she also echoed the
question about the cubic yards of sand and asked for an
explanation of where the sand will be going. She questioned
whether there would be any significant impact on elevations
and topography.
Mr, Botello advised it will be used to fill in some areas o
blowouts in the primary dune and some areas used for parking
lots in the past. It will smooth the dune.
Ms woods stated she had understood it to be talking about the
replication of the old McGregor Road entrance.
r
Mr. Botello stated no, there are two replications, one is the
dune, the, other is the bog area. The primary dune would be
limited to an area somewhere close to the boardwalk. There
will be a sand fence erected to retain the sand until the
vegetation, the beach grass, grows and stabilizes the dune.
Mrs. Ferriday asked if access will be as straight as
possible. Mr. Botello believed so.
Ms Woods asked when the beach grass would be planted? she
was told it grows best over the winter and should be planted
late in the year. That is when they are proposing to do
this.
Counsel advised they anticipate getting a majority of the
underlying work done prior to hard weather which would run
into late December. It is probable they could get into the
dunes and get vegetation in, but if not they might have to
defer it to another season.
Mrs. Ferriday stated it can be conditioned that there be
replacement of anything that does not take.
