i <br /> MASHPEE CONSERVATION COMMISSION <br /> i <br /> Minutes of 19 September 1996 <br /> i <br /> i <br /> Conunlssion rs present: John Fitzsimmons, Eliot Rosenberg, John <br /> Johansen, David Sharpe, Ralph Shaw, George <br /> Green, Jr. <br /> The Chairman called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m. <br /> P B ..IC COMMENT PERIOD: Beverly Kane, Vice-President of the <br /> Mashpee Environmental-Coalition spoke on behalf of the coalition. She read a <br /> letter into the record. The Coalition is asking for a vote to go forward with the <br /> DCPC. Everyone knows who the proponents are but who are the opponents? <br /> If there are any, she asked them to cone forward. <br /> The Chairman advised there are some things not covered in the letter. The <br /> Commission slid make representation to the Board of Selectmen. At the <br /> Selectmens' meeting, the Chair dict not wait until representatives of the <br /> Commission arrived for the discussion. This had leen tamed about at several <br /> meetings. He read from his letter to the Selectmen and stated the <br /> Commission is prepared to make it's point clear to then. <br /> Ms Kane asked if the Commission was not willing to tale a voter The <br /> Chairman stated there was a vote, the Co n si n felt it was the Selectmens' <br /> responsibility because they are elected officials. <br /> Ms Kane stated the Coalition. made a request to the Commission and asked if <br /> he was saying to the Coalition that the Commission is denying the request to <br /> be the nominating party? <br /> Mr. Fitzsimmons stated yes, the Commission is very sympathetic,- but is not <br /> the night party to make this nomination. <br /> Charles Costello, President of the Coalition, advised the Chairman of the <br /> Selectmen took the Grote five.minutes before the Commission showed up. The <br /> Chairman said it is in the Conservation Commission's area of expertise. He <br /> stated the Commission has a right and it is their duty to do it. <br /> Mr. Rosenberg stated there was an additional factor, in the request to the <br /> Selectmen to consider this matter; there was a suggestion that a public <br /> hearing he held so that the entire community which would he affected would <br />
