MAS HPEE WATERWAYS C014MI S S IO <br /> MINUTES MAY 131r 1996 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Jim Hanks , Ben Gordonr Herb Silver, <br /> Fred Fordham., <br /> Also present*. Perry Ellis , 11arborma ster <br /> Rick York, Shellfish Constable <br /> CALL To ORDER: Mr, Hanks called the meeting to order at the <br /> DPW Building at 7: 00 p.m. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: Dr. Gordon, Mr♦ Hanks and Mr. Silver visited <br /> Ikon Lund who recent.y had a stroke. <br /> George Ryan., Marc Delter o, and Matthew Jessen from the John ' s <br /> Pond Ski. Club were present and asked the Waterways Commissioners <br /> to recommend that the Selectmen 'issue a permit for a water ski <br /> jump and slalom course in John' s Pond for practice on a part--time <br /> basis in the spring and fall. Mr. Ryan circulated pictures <br /> and diagrams of the float and jump. The equipment will be removed <br /> from the water after each use but the mooring balls will remaln <br /> in the water. Mr. Hanks noted that the ski team used Johns <br /> Pond for slalom course skiing last year after beim denied a <br /> permit. Mr. Ryan stated that they used it in No'v'ember when <br /> there was very little activity on the water. Mr. Ellis was <br /> ,in favor of allowincj the ski Jump and slalom course for a few <br /> hours per week, and he recommended the jump be placed 350 yards <br /> off shore. The ski team will prepare a proposal along with <br /> apdropriate maps to scale to present at a public hearing, and <br /> the ski team will canvass support from their neighborhood. <br /> Dr. Gordon made a motion that Waterways Commission recommend <br /> to the Board of Selectmen to conduct a public hearing to discuss <br /> the John' s Pond Ski team request to utilize an existing ski <br /> ramp and/or slalom course on John' s Pond at times to be discussed <br /> at the public hearing. Mr. Silver seconded. Unanimous. Mr. <br /> Ellis will ask Mr. Whritenour to add this request on the next <br /> Board of Selectmen' s agenda* <br /> MINUTES: The Minutes of April 1 , 1996 were presented and <br /> revisions were made. A draft of the Minutes will be mailed <br /> to all Waterways ' s Commissioners prior to their next meeting { <br /> and any changes to the Minutes will be made and approved b <br /> the Commissioners present at that meeting. The corrected copy <br /> of the Minutes will then be prepared for a final vote of approval <br /> by the Board, <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Harbormaster Report: Mr. Ellis stated the McGee dock at 16 <br /> Spoondrift circle was shortened. by 8 feet as shorn on the plan <br /> dated April. 18 , 1996 to allow for navigation. <br />
