MAS HPEE WATERWAYS C014MI S S IO MINUTES MAY 131r 1996 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Jim Hanks , Ben Gordonr Herb Silver, Fred Fordham., Also present*. Perry Ellis , 11arborma ster Rick York, Shellfish Constable CALL To ORDER: Mr, Hanks called the meeting to order at the DPW Building at 7: 00 p.m. PUBLIC COMMENT: Dr. Gordon, Mr♦ Hanks and Mr. Silver visited Ikon Lund who recent.y had a stroke. George Ryan., Marc Delter o, and Matthew Jessen from the John ' s Pond Ski. Club were present and asked the Waterways Commissioners to recommend that the Selectmen 'issue a permit for a water ski jump and slalom course in John' s Pond for practice on a part--time basis in the spring and fall. Mr. Ryan circulated pictures and diagrams of the float and jump. The equipment will be removed from the water after each use but the mooring balls will remaln in the water. Mr. Hanks noted that the ski team used Johns Pond for slalom course skiing last year after beim denied a permit. Mr. Ryan stated that they used it in No'v'ember when there was very little activity on the water. Mr. Ellis was ,in favor of allowincj the ski Jump and slalom course for a few hours per week, and he recommended the jump be placed 350 yards off shore. The ski team will prepare a proposal along with apdropriate maps to scale to present at a public hearing, and the ski team will canvass support from their neighborhood. Dr. Gordon made a motion that Waterways Commission recommend to the Board of Selectmen to conduct a public hearing to discuss the John' s Pond Ski team request to utilize an existing ski ramp and/or slalom course on John' s Pond at times to be discussed at the public hearing. Mr. Silver seconded. Unanimous. Mr. Ellis will ask Mr. Whritenour to add this request on the next Board of Selectmen' s agenda* MINUTES: The Minutes of April 1 , 1996 were presented and revisions were made. A draft of the Minutes will be mailed to all Waterways ' s Commissioners prior to their next meeting { and any changes to the Minutes will be made and approved b the Commissioners present at that meeting. The corrected copy of the Minutes will then be prepared for a final vote of approval by the Board, OLD BUSINESS Harbormaster Report: Mr. Ellis stated the McGee dock at 16 Spoondrift circle was shortened. by 8 feet as shorn on the plan dated April. 18 , 1996 to allow for navigation.
