MA HPE WATERWAYS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES JULY 91 1996 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRBSENT: Tim Hanks , Ben Gordon Don Lund <br /> , Fred <br /> Fordham, William Rowland, Herb Silver, <br /> Also present: Perry Ell i Harbormaster <br /> Rick York, Shellfish Constable <br /> CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Hanks called the meeting to order in the <br /> DPW Conference Room at 7 : 05 p#m. <br /> PUBLICCOMMENT: Mr. Hanks reported that Randy Berm and Half <br /> Fide Marina hearings will be held by the Mashpee Board. of Appeals <br /> on. Wednesday, July 24 , 1996 at 7 : 30 p+m* at the Carol H. Jacobson <br /> Senior Center, Handy Bern is seeking permission to exceed the <br /> 70 foot dock length limit, and Half Fide Marina is seeking to <br /> store boats in an open let. <br /> Allen Phi lbrook of. Mashpee was present to seek support for a <br /> mountain bike and canod/kayak rental business to begin May 1997 <br /> and continue into October,, Mr. Ph i lbrook grants to operate a <br /> shuttle to and from the local Waterways in Mashpee (particularly <br /> Punkhorn Point) for self- guided group tours on the Mashpee Hiverb <br /> It was suggested that Mr. Phi lbrook talk to the following: <br /> George Baker about the safety issues , Charlie Swain of Edward ' s <br /> Boat Yard about his canoe rental business and acquire more <br /> details and guidance , and Mr. Fudala who .is an advocate of "green <br /> � en <br /> industry. " Mr. Philbrook plans to meet with Bob Sherman to <br /> discuss -the use of the Mashpee Woodlands which are administered <br /> by the Conservation Commission, It was further- suggested Mr. <br /> Phi,lbrook provide his group with a cellular phone and take <br /> precautions during duck/goose hunting season* Herb Silver asked <br /> for a more detailed plan, and William Rowland noted there are <br /> State and Federal carriage requirements . Mr. Phil.brook has <br /> been guaranteed insurance by- Downing & O'Neill, Waterways IS <br /> ,interested in hearing more about this idea in the future, <br /> Tauno Metsisto of 139 Summersea road was present to discuss <br /> the dredging status of ockway Bay, Popponesset Hay, and the <br /> entrance to Popponesset Bay. He agreed to stag for this <br /> discussion later in the meeting , <br /> MINUTES: A motion was rade by Berg Gordon to accept the Minutes <br /> of May 13, 1996, seconded by Herb Silver. Hnarti mous, <br /> A notion was made by Ben Gordon to accept the amended Minutes <br /> of June 3, 1996, seconded by Herb Silver. Unanimous. <br /> A motion was made by Jit Hanks to mare changes to the draft <br /> Minutes and distribute a hand-edited copy to members prior to <br /> the next meeting, seconded by Ben. Gordon.
