MASHPEE WATERWAYS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES AUGUST 6. 1996 <br /> COMMISSIONER PRESENT: Jim Hanks , BenGordon, � <br /> on <br /> Lund, <br /> Fred Eord.ham t Herb Silver, <br /> Also present,. berry Ellis , Harbormaster <br /> Rick York, Shellfish Constable <br /> Don Laf fent and Mead Sommers, quests <br /> CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Hanks called the rtiee t ing to order '�n the <br /> DPW conference Room at 7: 03wm. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: Herb Silver introduced Mead Sommers <br /> as the <br /> Chair-man of an ad hoc ockway Bay Committee whose interest is <br /> in dredging Ockway Bay Channel (the area from the <br /> launching <br /> ramp to a north-south line between Punkhorn Point and the ti <br /> of Daniel ' s Island) . Mr. Sommers was present to learn more <br /> about the dredging status. Ikon Laffert was present to observe <br /> with the intention of becoming a Waterways Commissioner. He <br /> could fill the Freshwater vacancy, and Mr. Hanks suggested he <br /> write a letter of interest to the Selectmen, <br /> MINUTES <br /> A motion was made by Or. Gordon to accept the Minutes s of <br /> July 9, 1996 as amended, seconded bMr. Lund. Unanimous, <br /> moues; <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Har ormas t r e ort: Mr. Ellis reported that weekends� e ds haeme <br /> been busy, and the fog had created soneroblems * There ere was <br /> a serious accident with a jet skier on Mashpee-Wakeby Pond <br /> The signs have been taut back up that were torn down. There <br /> was an attendance problem with one of the Assistant Harbormasters <br /> which has been remedied. The bandy Bern dock n <br /> � o Waterline Drive <br /> was reviewed and approved. There has been no t progress pro <br /> � go report <br /> on the new Town dock. Mr. Hanks received a copy of a letter <br /> from Mr. Bohnenberger to the Board of Selectmen who expressed <br /> concern about the length of the proposed Town dock. He -assessed- <br /> the dock would use more than 25% of the river, lir. Gordon <br /> offered to retake the measurement to address this concern, <br /> Mr. Ellis is hauling out bad, moorings as usual. Dr, Gordon <br /> recommended purchasing new outboard motors next spring. Nor. <br /> Ellis wi11 talk to Mr. Souder- <br /> { a representative of American <br /> Honda outboard motor division. <br /> Shellfish Constable Report: Mr, York reported there <br /> � are good <br /> natural sets of steamers and quahogs in both Bays . <br /> There are <br /> over a Million seeds growing in the u weller, in trays and bottom <br /> planted with protected netting; the propagation program ram i s <br /> progressing. The new Falmouth constable contacted Mr. York <br />
