Mr. Daly said there were a few things that we are not discussing because it is beyond feasibility. There is
offshore disposal, although it is discouraged, of these materials available. There is one area off Wellfleet.
The cost is estimated at$40 per cubic yard. That is gray beyond any fusibility of cost.
Mr. Worsen asked if we have eliminated such things as landfill, daily cover, intermcdiate cover and
existing landfills such as Bourne. Mr. Hanks said in February, 1997 we talked with the Board of Health
about using the material for landfill, we offered to sell it diem. They said we could use it but they
wouldn't buy it from us. fir. Worsen said we would just have to come up with trucking cost in addition to
the dredging. He thought it as a shame we missed that.
Mr.Rosenberg asked if there was anything that can be looked at in the way of the questions that would
have to be answered in the environmental impact statement, Is there enough of a format so that you can
see what has to be answered. Mr. Sherinan stated they would define the scope further. He believes you
could answer the questions with more accuracy if you were moving down one of the options instead of all
three. Mr. Sherman stated he thought that the option of laird disposal has procedural and legal hurdles
the others do not.
Mr. worsen added that he thought the funds that you put toward an envirolimental impact report are
going to be significant, almost to the paint that hauling it will cost less. Mr. worsen said you could do
four corings. You could take them out and mix them togcther and do one composite, It will give you a
basic composite. It will let you know if there are salinity problems and nutrient problems, It will give a
lot of answers and maybe throw out one of these ideas.
Mr. Sherman said if you do get to the point where you've narrowed your choices and selecting a firm, thoy
can help with guidance oil that.
Mr. Rosenberg said that they would work with you in any way they can. They may ask questions that will
be tough to answer but they are asked in good faith.
Mr.Hanks then went over the two marsh island sites for the benefit of the Conservation Commission.
The meeting adjourned at S.-25 p,in.
Respectfully submitted,
t
Angela Newhall
5
