Aquaculture Moratorium Objectives Discussion -
Rick York.
Mr., ork reported that we had five new aquaculture
grants come through. of those five, only two have
been finally approved. The three that were not
approved, the problems ranged from the Army corps
of Engineers losing the entire application and
having to r -submit and re-review it to problems
with submerged aquatic vegetation, which includes
eolgrass and another typo of grass called Rupia.
Mr. York feels that the problems being ret at the
federal level have been extensive . There seers to
be no real firm policy on all cases of aquatic
moratorium. Things have really gotten bogged down
on this level .,
Mr, York also stated that he does not feel that we
have enough grants "up and running"" . Two out of
five grants is really not enough to assess the
effectiveness of these grants . Rick has asked the
commission for input on the potential status of
the Moratorium.
Ed Baker requested for copies of the annual
reports for the grants .
The Moratorium ends on March 1$t of 2000 . The
question posed to the commission is do we renew it
or let it end..
After much discussion, Gerald Daly made a motion
that the Waterways Commission has. no interest in
continuing with the Aquaculture Moratorium.
William Taylor seconded the motion and all other
members voted in favor. The motion was carried.
Barnstable county Coastal Resources Committee
Update - Gerald.
