17 April 1997
Page 3.
changes in plans submitted to the Board. He stated he understood there i
controversy on the lenhic study.
The Chairman asked what is the issue Mr. Sherman stated there are some
abutter concerns and shellfish concerns.
Mr. Slavins y stated they went to Marm' a Fisheries and John Nicholas who
did a study in 10,000 s.f of the area and his study is part of the file.
resume for Mr. Nicholas was requested and will be forthcoming. Mr.
Slavinsly stated a shellfish study was done 100' x 100' around the proposed
float and nothing was found.. Another limited shellfish study was done 5 feet
from the share; the float is 15 foot from the shore. Mr. Sherman stated the
area of the grid is not shown. Mr. Slavins y stated it is 100' out and 100'
back. He will put this on the plan.
Fain Gildea, attorney for the abutters, advised there is a limited survey
prepared by Robert Gray of Sabatia. She stated after the shellfish issue is
addressed, she has several other issues.
Mr. Gray advised the work was not done from a boat so he used the Darcy-
Lipkin float facility and the shoreline. He concentrated on an area shown in
green on the plan. He did 20 grabs and found 7 quahogs of legal size and 3
oysters. At the end of the float, the mud is 33-34 inches thick. This has been
documented in the report as weR. A visual inspection would reveal siphon
holes. He suggested the Commission may want to defer to the Division of
Marine Fisheries. Also, someone could do snorkeling. His conclusions and
recommendations were included in the report.
Mr. Slavinsy stated in a narrow band from the shore there are some
shellfish, but in the area of the float or the mess, there are no shellfish.
Mr. York stated he raked the area of the proposed floats and dict not end any
shellfish. The area is not condusive to the setting or survival of sheMh. The
floats would not impact the area.. if the float is permitted, the Commission
may want to condition the boat on the south side.
Mr. Sherman asked if there are any concerns for any other species other than
moll sl s Mr. Gray stated he found a few worms.
Mr. Sherman asked for details on the vessel and the depth to the bottom o
the propulsion unit? Mr. Locarno was not sure. He stated whatever is
conditioned, he will abide by.
