6 June 1997
Page 10.
fir. Shun agreed more should be known before the town-wide requirement. He had
asked George Heufelder if he thought one-half the nitrogen was corning from septic
systems and he stated yes.
en*sh: The Agent went there to check vista prmfing. They stayed mostly within
guidelines. Five areas were excessive and he is fifing an amended order request. He wants
to take another bite. He suggested before the ung is received, the Commission should
give some thought to this Sherman did not feel, with the view fir. Berish has in all
directions that he should be allowed to remove the additional area even though there would
still be the 50 feet. The question is not does he need it, the point is the wildlife does. It is
subject to the Divers Act and the bylaw and perhaps could not be approved because of
that. 1f a denial it would be under the fivers Act and the bylaw.
Appointments: The Agent requested a pohey on public requests for information without
an appointment.
VOTE: lotion made and seconded that office personnel shall not be required to deal
with any person without an appointment. Unanimous Vote.
office demands: Because of the workload, Diana is three sets of minutes behind. The
Agent advised he is looking into a voice recognition program. The other solution would be
to hire a hoard secretary to do meet.
Sheehan: The Agent ad sed l . Sheehan, who purchased the property on Popponesset
Island with the septic already In but the house not built, requested relief from having to
install a denitrifying system. After numerous conversations with George._Heufelder, fir.
Sheehan has requested to install monitoring wells rather than to add an alternate
component. h&. Heufelder will write the specifications. 1f it is found that this goes over
the standards, he would stl have to put in the system. fir. Sherman asked the Chaimian if
he would be satisfied with random samphng. fir. Fitzsimmons stated he would want
continuous sampling, a smaR amount drawn continuously. fir. Sherman advised they
could not do it that way.
l ir. Rosenberg asked. how much sampling would cost over a period of two years.
Sheehan advised it is very shallow wells, $600 per year. A& Rosenberg stated if looking at
this at $300 per sampling, $1200 per year for two years, it would pair for the denitriPying
system. He stated the cast of the wells is not known.
l r. Sherrrrnan stated George Heufelder gage the costs as $boo per year for sampling and
then the cost of the wells. It would b 7-8000 to convert.
l&. Fitzsimmons Mated he would like to say no to the whole thing. Sherman would
like to try it, it may prove the fact that title V systems do not work.
