6 August 1998
Page 4.
at the edge of the area disturbed to provide some additional screening and
the requirement, to get back that oak community, that half the oaks that
were taken out would be replaced with small oak trees rather than relying an
shoat regrowth.
Mr. Wirsen asked if the oaks coming back, are theagoing to be invasive to
other species? Mr. Sherman stated they will have to be controlled.
Mr. Rosenberg asked if the plan being discussed is the Hoxie plan? Mr.
Sherman stated he asked bath landscapers to incorporate' our suggestions.
Dan providedwhat was basically a good plan. Undek Diane's evaluation, it
was changed a bit to increase the chances for full regeneration faster. The
Ho2rie plan reflected that and so did the other plan.
Mr. Werrick stated he does not understand all of this, but understands parts
of it and he was told by-people that are in this business that originally, the
_
Hoide plan, Michael Navickas gave hium an estimate of $7,000. He then
spoke to Bob Sherman and said he got a very expensive estimate and would
like to go out and took two other people from the list. Hosie was the first one
and he came back at $3,Q04 for the same list but smaller plantings. Then he
called Bob Sherman and told him be gat a second estimate and asked if he
should go ahead with it or did he wand to meed with him. He wanted to meet
with him. Then it went back up to $7,000 because Bob asked for larger
plants. Mr. Werrick Mated he has been told that the way this thing is
growing, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to put in these larger plantings
at this time as the smaller plantings are going to grow very quickly and
vigorously.
Mr. Fitzsimmons stated it has already beensaid that one whale season.
Mr. Werrick stated a season has been lost but as can be seen from the
photographs, there is a great deal of cover there. He is saying he does not
feel, at this point, but he is not the expert,if he is willing to put these in, why
can't he put the smaller plantings in, or meet with the woman that he had
never heard her name until just now and discuss it further with her. The
other thing he was, going to suggest is that if he can cut back on some of these
plantings, he is aware Mashpee is trying to get funds to build a Boys club,
that he would donate some of this money to the future home of the Boys
Club. He does not see spending money foolishly is the right way to go about
this.
