mom
20 May 1999
i Page 3,
Mr. Johansen made the motion that it stands the way it is. Mr. wirs n
seconded the notion.
VOTE: Motion made and seconded. Unanimous vote.
Jacobs Engineering: Carl Gustafson was present with Mike Minior of
AFCEE to explain the proposal for drilling on Ashumet Pond. There are
three reasons, investigation of the phosphorus plume coming from the old
waste water treatment plan on MMR going into Fishermens Cove area of
Ashumet Pond. They would like to drill this summer putting in 60 holes and
putting in monitoring wells in the pond. In addition to the phosphorus
investigation, they would like to investigate for the CS19 plume heading into
Ashumet Pond underneath it and possibly some upwelling. They have
already in stalled a treatment fence across Sandwich Road that has just been
started with the use of the SD5 Treatment Plant. They would like to try t
identify if the CS 19 plume is under-running the pond towards Johns Pond.
The third reason is between Ashumet Pond and Johns Pond, they have found
the TCE plunge and very high concentrations are upwelling into Johns Pend.
They need to back trace that to determine exactly where,it is going. They
went before the Board of Selectmen on Monday might and they voted to in
favor of this project.
The areas where the wells will be put in were displayed on a map. They will
be taking water samples, soil samples, using a push drill rig and will go down
about 109 feet below the pond surface-for investigative samplings.
Mr. Minior stated the rig will be on a pontoon boat. They have spoken to the
Harbormaster about this. They will take all precautions and work with
Fisheries and wildlife to get approval to launch everything from the boat
ramp on Ashuret Pond. There will not be very many buoys on the pond and
they would position it using GPS. They would plan to start in the second
week of June and will go all the way through August. There will be a total of
60 bore holes put into the pond in various areas.
Mr. Sherman advised such monitoring wells are exempt from wetlands
filings. No application is needed. He has no problem with it.
The Chair thanked them for their presentation.
7;05 WILLOWBEND DEVELOPMENT CORP., windy Gate/Bonnie blink,
Continued from 8 April 1999.
