I
i ASHPEE CONSERVATION COMMISSION
Minutes of,July 24, 2003
Public Hearing
I arsh ee Town Hath Meeting Room 3
Commissioners present; Jack Fitzsimmons, Elliot Rosenberg, Cass costa,
Stephanie Jones, John Miller, Leonard Pinaud, and Ralph Shag.
Staff present; Robert Sherman, Agent; Frances Wise, Board secretary
Jack Fitzsimmons, chairman, called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m.
.
Public Hearing:
Nora-HearingA ends
Old Business:
1. A. Request uest from Steve fHurley, Massachusetts Fish & Wildlife, to replace plantings
along K-2. Bob received this request and he proposed that we restore the shrubs
planted by ,Jacobs Engineering along K-2 at north'c , where we have a good stream
i
flow.
B. Bob recommended that we restore the plantings, and he is exploring the legal
options for withholding the cost for this from Brian andy's payment for net year --
probably about $2,000.
Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried to replace the plantings along K+2
and assess Brian dandy the cost to the extent legal.
2. Lawrence Werrick, 10 Wheelhouse Road. Bob read a letter from Mr. vl errick
requesting reinstatement of their vista pruning permit. Bob said at the Cast meeting we
discussed that this was one of the most egregious violations we have had in the past
14 years. Mr. Werrick only replanted after vire gent to court forcing hires to do so. Bob
explained to him that if he had done it right the first time, he could have a vier noir.
When the trees are bigger he can limb therm from below, but before that happens, it's
important that the trees are producing acorns to support the wildlife habitat. He told
hire that he didn't think the Commission would be amenable to his request for a full
vista pruning, but that they aright agree to a very narrow 1 o ft. vista corridor so he can
see his dock for safety purposes. He suggested that Mike Talbot visit the site to give
his evaluation of the current status before we make our final decision.
