A ashpee conservation Commission <br /> ion <br /> Minutes of January 24, 2008 <br /> Public Hearings <br /> lashpee Town Hall <br /> Commissioners Present: Jack Fitzsimmons(Chair), Jeffrey Cross, Lloyd Aller, Cass Costas an.d Leonard <br /> Pinaud <br /> Staff present: Draw McManus (conservation Agent) and Melissa Brown (Board Secretary) <br /> Jack Fitzsimmons called the meeting to order 6:55pm <br /> Post Hearin-Agenda„ <br /> 1) Torn Fudala—Article for Annual Town.Meeting (shield's) <br /> Torn Fudala explained that the article the Dom issionees.all had copies of is to get Selectmen <br /> backing for the purchase of Mr. Shield's property at 100 Meetinghouse Rd. The Commission had <br /> looked into this purchase last year as part of the Shield—Lopez Land deal, but it was never <br /> finalized. The article is needed this year so that conservation can apply for some type of self-help' <br /> grant. Torn did also mention thea may be the cost of a new appraisal as the other one done i <br /> more than a year old. The Commission voted to have the article submitted but that the purchase <br /> and sale be subject to procuring self-help funds. <br /> Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried to forward the'article to the selectmen. <br /> 2) Torn Fudala—Article for Annual Town Meeting <br /> Tom Fudala explained that the article the commissioner's all had copies of is to have the Town. <br /> transfer Town owned lead bordering existing Conservation lands. Tont explained that he has <br /> wanted to consolidate the area for a long time so that the care and custody of the lands can be <br /> solely one department's area. Another benefit of this consolidation is that there will be access to <br /> the easement that exists within the named properties. The Commission acknowledged that they <br /> were happy to see this and that previous articles like this were opposed by the citizens of the <br /> town. The citizens.did not want to have stricter Conservation regulations to abide by. <br /> Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried to approve the article as explained b <br /> Torn Fudala to send to Town meeting. <br /> i ) Stewardship Initiative Informational Meeting <br /> The Agent explained to the Commission that on March 3, 2008 @ 7 p.m. there will be an <br /> informational meeting for the public regarding the Stewardship Initiative Program. The Agent will <br /> have a PowerPoint presentation to illustrate what the goal of the program is and what will be <br /> asked of participants. He has invited the cape Cod Jeep club and they will also be doing a <br /> presentation on#heir o ri program. The Agent also.invited the Town of Mashpee Police and Fire <br /> Chiefs to get their input in regards to the program. The Agent did mention that the EPO <br /> (Environmental Police Officer) Matt Bass did notice that there is some cleaning up taking place <br /> already. There was recently a large dumping of computer equipment at one if the sites and it was <br /> gone a few dans later, The Agent stated that he was also compiling a list of what landfills take <br /> what in the area and if there are any alteratives for people with things like a vaste. Computer <br /> components). He will have it available for the general public but also for Stewardship volunteers <br /> so if they are faced with having to get rid of such waste they know where to dump it.
