Conservation Commission <br /> Minutes of July 22, 2010 <br /> Public Hearings <br /> I ash ee Town Hall - conference Room 1 <br /> Commissioners: Chairman Jack Fitzsimmons, Vice chairman Ralph Shaver, Brad Sweet, John Rogers, <br /> , <br /> Lloyd Allen <br /> Staff Present: Drew McManus (Conservation Agent) and Cris Carpenter (Administrative Secretary) <br /> Call Meeting To order. 6:55 pirn - Public Comment <br /> There was no public comment. <br /> Pre/Post Hearing A-endo. <br /> 1 Minutes: Approval of the following minutes:: Thursday} June 24, 2010 <br /> Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried to approve the minutes of June 24, 2010. <br /> 2 Haley &Aldrich Consulting Firm Consulting Firm- Agent McManus would like to recommend using <br /> Haley &Aldrich for the Quashnet river realignment project-since they were our consulting firm from the <br /> beginning and they have been working with the Woods Hole Group during the feasibility studies for the <br /> river realignment scenarios. <br /> i <br /> Motion made, a conded and unanimously carried to support Haley & Aldrich as the consulting firm <br /> for the Quashnet River Realignment nt Project. <br /> 3) Cape Cod coo ive Extension: Never round of grant funds for conservation land projects and wildfire <br /> abatement. Agent McManus received an application from Cape Cod cooperative Extension for a neer <br /> round of grant money for conservation land projects and wildfire abatement. The agent mentions a <br /> recent wild fire at Ma tepee liver Woodlands that burned 2.1 acres which was contained and <br /> perimeters were controlled by the brush machine that was purchased about a year ago with grant <br /> money. He will be applying for more funds for more treatments in larger parcels and possibly some <br /> gild fire education. <br /> HEARINGS <br /> 7:00 George Flte (17 Little Neck Lane) Remove three trees RDA <br /> Resource Area: Coastal Bank <br /> George Fiate would life to remove three trees after an arborist had been consulted. <br /> One tree was almost leaning on the deck after the last wind storm and the arborist <br /> believes the pine tree is dying. Agent McManus inspected the trees which there are two <br /> oaks and one pitch pine and the pitch pine do have pine bore damage. A number of <br /> branches are hanging over the deck and roof in which he recommends tree removal. <br /> Chairman Fitzsimmons would like to comment regarding removal of trees that are near <br /> a home or deck and his concern in the long run with applying approach could lead to <br /> unnecessary cutting of hundreds of trees. He mentions that he went to the property and <br /> looked at the trees and did not see an imminent hazard. Agent McManus states that <br /> each request does need careful evaluation and if it is not obvious then he will <br /> recommend an arborist or pruning. In this case though 1t was obvious than pruning <br /> would have removed more than half of the tree and the tree would not have survived. <br /> Motion made,, seconded and unanimously carried for a legative Determination <br /> 1 <br />
